Trump, Nvidia Talks to Allow Advanced AI Chip Sales in China

Nvidia's CEO Jensen Huang mentioned that he is negotiating with the Trump administration to sell Blackwell chips to China, as the company looks for opportunities to enter the Chinese market following restrictions. Huang conveyed to Fox Business that he feels optimistic regarding the discussions with the administration, though he noted there is no deadline for finalizing an agreement.
"I believe the discussion will be lengthy, but President Trump recognizes that enabling the world to develop AI on the American technology framework benefits America in the AI competition," Huang stated.
"He desires American technology to be present worldwide, ensuring that everything is constructed according to the American standard, similar to how the US Dollar serves as the global standard," he observed.
The Nvidia CEO shared his view that artificial intelligence (AI) will "enhance our lives," although it will lead to the disappearance of certain jobs.
Huang mentioned that AI will bring numerous positive impacts across various sectors, including productivity, GDP growth, and the ability to generate innovative ideas.
"Each industrial revolution brings about shifts in social behavior," he stated. "However, I anticipate the economy will thrive due to AI and automation." And I anticipate that we will enhance our lives. The quality of life will improve, naturally, as time progresses. Certain jobs will disappear. Numerous jobs will be created and developed. However, one certainty is that every job will be transformed due to AI.

Nvidia's second quarter earnings revealed no sales of H20 chips to China; Huang mentioned the company hasn't received orders thus far, stating, "but we’re hopeful for orders."
"H20 remains an excellent product." "The performance in terms of price, its efficiency in costs, and its capability to produce AI tokens is truly remarkable," he noted.
In April, Washington restricted sales of Nvidia's advanced H20 chips to China, escalating the technology conflict with Beijing. Nonetheless, last month, the US changed its stance, committing to lifting the licensing restrictions to permit sales.
Conversely, Beijing has allegedly advised local firms to refrain from utilizing Nvidia's H20 chips, especially for government-related applications.
Blackwell ranks among Nvidia's leading AI chips. In the most recent quarter, Nvidia's sales of the sophisticated chip rose 17 percent year-over-year.
