Trump Rebukes Germany on Iran Policy, Flags Rising Nuclear Risks

US President Donald Trump reprimanded German Chancellor Friedrich Merz for his comments on the Iran conflict, claiming he misinterpreted Tehran’s nuclear goals and mischaracterized his stance.
In a Truth Social post, Trump claimed Merz “believes it’s acceptable for Iran to possess a Nuclear Weapon” and remarked, “He’s clueless,” while cautioning that an Iran with nuclear capabilities would be a worldwide danger.
Trump stated, “If Iran possessed a Nuclear Weapon, the entire World would be held hostage,” and went on to say, “I am currently addressing Iran in a manner that other Nations or Presidents should have pursued long ago.” His remarks occurred during escalating tensions regarding the persistent conflict and disagreements between the United States and its European partners.
The comments came after Merz criticized the US strategy toward Iran a day prior. The German Chancellor stated that Iran's leaders were "humiliating" the United States in diplomatic interactions and highlighted unsuccessful negotiations that allegedly had US officials visiting Pakistan without advancements.

He also cautioned about situations in the Strait of Hormuz, stating the passageway is “partially mined.” He mentioned that any disturbance in the strait could instantly and significantly affect global oil transportation and commerce.
