TheThe Unified Payments Interface (UPI), a cornerstone of India's Digital Public Infrastructure that has gained global recognition, has achieved a notable milestone. According to Dilip Asbe, Managing Director and CEO of the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), credit card spending through UPI has now reached Rs 10,000 crore monthly.

Asbe also mentioned that the credit lines available on UPI accounts have risen to between Rs 100 crore and Rs 200 crore, with the rest coming from the RuPay credit card on UPI feature. ICICI Bank is leading the way in offering this credit through UPI, alongside five to six other banks that have also adopted the service.

NPCI introduced the 'credit line on UPI' feature last year, aimed at providing small, high-volume retail loans for individuals and businesses. This feature is now available through major banks such as Axis Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank (PNB), and State Bank of India (SBI).

Digital platforms like BHIM, Google Pay, Paytm, PayZapp, Navi, and Tata Neu are also offering this product. RuPay Credit Cards on UPI offer a streamlined, digital credit card experience, supported by 16 banks.

UPI transactions in July hit Rs 20.64 lakh crore, a rise from Rs 20.07 lakh crore the previous month, reflecting a 35 percent year-on-year increase. The number of UPI transactions grew nearly 4 percent month-on-month, reaching 14.44 billion in July from 13.89 billion in June.

The average daily UPI transaction volume was 466 million in July, up from 463 million in June, with the average daily transaction amount at Rs 66,590 crore. UPI continues to expand rapidly, adding about 60 lakh new users each month, driven by the integration of RuPay credit cards and its global adoption.
