Zelio E-Mobility Inaugurates Coimbatore Plant

Electric mobility company Zelio E-Mobility announced the opening of a new production facility in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, which has a yearly output capacity of 60,000 units, as part of its growth plan in southern India and certain areas of Maharashtra.
Zelio E-Mobility is increasing its total installed manufacturing capacity by 33 percent to reach 240,000 electric two-wheelers each year with the launch of its new facility.
This facility spans 39,000 sq. ft. and is located on Trichy Road, Coimbatore. The facility will cater to important southern markets, such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and South Maharashtra.

The site possesses a production and assembly capability of 60,000 units annually. In the early stage, it is anticipated to produce approximately 24,000 to 30,000 electric two-wheelers each year, with production expanding as demand rises. The setup expense was approximately Rs.1 crore. The facility presently has 30 employees and is anticipated to increase its workforce by over 100 individuals in the months ahead. The growth corresponds with the company's strategy to surpass 500 employees in this financial year.
The new facility complements the company's current manufacturing plants located in Haryana and Odisha. Prior to the Coimbatore facility starting operations, Zelio E-Mobility’s total production capacity was 180,000 units each year. With the new addition, the company is now able to manufacture as many as 240,000 units annually.
This new facility will adhere to the same manufacturing and quality standards as its other plants.
The goal is to expand dealer access, boost after-sales service, and improve supply chain effectiveness throughout southern India within the next two years.
The growth occurs in the context of robust business expansion for Zelio E-Mobility. The firm announced a 81.8 percent annual rise in revenue to Rs.313.68 crore for FY2025-26 and has consistently been profitable since it started. After its BSE SME listing in October 2025 that secured Rs.78.34 crore, the firm has further developed its manufacturing network and dealer network, now surpassing 400 dealerships in over 25 states, intending to grow the network to over 550 dealerships by FY27.
South India serves as a key market for electric two-wheelers due to its substantial commuter base, prevalent two-wheeler usage, expanding urban areas, and extensive dealer network.
For Zelio, the new facility is more than just an increase in manufacturing capacity. It establishes a regional foundation from which the company can grow its retail and post-sales presence.

The actual commercial advantage will rely on how efficiently Zelio transforms the increased capacity into consumer demand. Simply increasing capacity doesn't ensure higher volumes, especially in a competitive electric scooter market dominated by established OEMs and a variety of local brands.
Prior to the launch of the Coimbatore facility, Zelio possessed an annual manufacturing capacity of 1.8 lakh units. The extra 60,000 units increase the total capacity of the company to 2.4 lakh units annually.

The inclusion of Coimbatore provides Zelio with a more geographically spread manufacturing presence, with plants spanning the northern, eastern, and southern regions of the nation.
As a manufacturer grows, this type of regionalisation can become more significant. Electric scooters are large items to move, and positioning assembly plants nearer to key consumer markets can enhance inventory control and shorten lead times.
