Swapnali Vishwajeet Kadam, Chairperson Parents are often our first teachers and subsequently teachers become our secondary parents. Similarly, our home is our first school and school becomes our secondary home. Evidently, schools play a critical role in a child’scognitive, psychological, physical and sociological development. Therefore, it is pertinent for schools to be safe havens that promote all round development of children. Marching ahead on the path of nurturing confident, responsible, curious and creative learners through well balanced theme based curriculum and amidst a safe environment is Bharati Vidyapeeth Rabindranath Tagore School of Excellence (BVRTSE).

Situated in Pune, BVRTSE’s foundation is laid on the philosophy of the Nobel laureate Shri Rabindranath Tagore. The school emulates an education system that is deeply rooted in one's immediate surroundings but also connected to the cultures of the wider world and individualized to the personality of the child. Striking a balance between state-of-the-art infrastructure and an internationally acceptable quality education, the school is run by well-trained teaching and non-teaching staff. Founded in 2017 and today offering preprimary, primary and secondary education, BVRTSE is headed by Swapnali Vishwajeet Kadam, Chairperson and an educationalist who is carrying forward the vision of Hon’ble Dr. Patangrao V Kadam, the Founder of Bharati Vidyapeeth University. In an in depth conversation with the CEO Insights, Swapnali speaks to us about the founding principles and effective curriculum followed at BVRTSE.

BVRTSE is built on the foundation of the prestigious Bharti Vidhyapeeth. How has the institute’s philosophy impacted BVRTSE? Also, tell us more about the various facets that make BVRTSE a one-of-a-kind institution?
We believe that education is the basis of all progress and progress can only be achieved if men and women are equally well educated. 55 years ago, Bharti Vidyapeeth forayed into the field of education owing to this very principle I am working towards taking forward this vision of Hon'ble Dr. Patangrao V Kadam under whose umbrella the
group established over 156 educational units of various kinds.

BVRTSE’s journey began as a Preprimary school in April, 2017 with 50 students on board and within less than three years, we have reached up till 435 students. This success was possible because as an organization we believe in fostering holistic education for students, encompassing academics, co-curricular activities, sports education and life skills learning. Welcoming candidates from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, we nurture students in a global learning environment.

At BVRTSE, we offer the world’s most popular international qualification taken in over 160 countries, the CAIE curriculum

Early years are considered as the most critical in terms of cognitive development and learning for a child. How is BVRTSE’s Early Year Program designed in order to bring out the best in children?
Scientific research has concluded that the first six years of a child are the most crucial period in building up the neuron cells in their brain. Therefore children are most receptive to learning, be it language, cognitive skills, fine arts or values during these years. Keeping this in mind, our EYP(Early Year Program)makes use of a range of individual and group activities which create a lively and positive learning environment. Games, songs, creative projects, story telling, role-playing, drawing, painting and multi sensory activities help develop children's skills in literacy and numeracy.

Also, we believe that children are born curious and love to explore & ask questions. Our EYP builds on this natural curiosity. We have specially trained teachers who ask questions, promote inquiry and set up activities that challenge young minds to think and collaborate. Our teaching methodology develops a strong foundation for children entering into IGCSE Primary year’s program.

How has BVRTSE designed its curriculum in order to foster best possible learning outcomes amongst all its students?
At BVRTSE, we offer the world’s most popular international qualification taken in over 160 countries the CAIE curriculum. Divided into four stages, Cambridge International Primary Program (CIPP), Lower Secondary/ Checkpoint, Secondary/ IGCSE and Cambridge International A Levels, the curriculum focuses on fostering learning with deep conceptual understanding Metacognition which means nurturing self awareness in
the classroom.

Teachers at BVRTSE follow the Active Learning pedagogies which allows students to engage with the material, participate in the class, and collaborate with each other. Unlike other schools that focus on rote learning, we promote learning by helping students demonstrate a process, analyze an argument, or apply a concept to a real world situation. An enquiry based learning environment is encouraged by assessment for learning.

Teachers play the most significant role in a child’s school journey. Throw some light on the teaching staff at BVRTSE.
BVRTSE’s teaching team comprises of highly motivated and skilled educators who are propelled by the zest for instilling values in young minds and shaping the leaders of tomorrow. Maintaining an ideal teacher student ratio, we have qualified B.Ed graduate teachers or qualified subject related teachers. Our teachers undergo constant in-house training to achieve an optimal balance between children’s self initiated learning and adult guided learning to cater to the individual needs of children. All our teachers also attend the required Cambridge certified trainings for their skill upgradation from time to time.

BVRTSE lays emphasis on the all round development of students. Tell us about the various extra curricular activities that your students can indulge in.
Tagore believed that learning arts and culture was crucial for developing empathy and sensitivity among young students. Following his teachings, BVRTSE lays a strongfocus on co-curricular opportunities and sports that facilitate a child’s holistic education and development. The school has tied up with Natekar Sports and Fitness(NSF) for the extracurricular activities in the School, which teaches football, basketball, cricket, badminton, gymnastics, martial arts and table tennis to our students. We also have Torrins Academy teaching age appropriate instruments such as uklele, guitar, keyboard and drums to our students. The school’s speech and drama activities are handled by Helen 'O' Grady from K1 section to Grade VII.
