In an exclusive interview with CEO Insights Magazine, Manoj Kr. Deka, CEO, at Ayursundra Hospitals walks us through his personal and professional career along with a unique traits of the company.

Tell us about your professional background and experiences. What inspired you to venture into hospitals and the healthcare segment?
My passion is the medical field, and achieving perfection has always been a goal of mine. I earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus on Human Resource Management and Marketing Management. Following that, I pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Administration as well as in Journalism and Mass Communication.

I began my career as a journalist. Later, in pursuit of my objective, I began working as a healthcare professional in GNRC Hospitals, Guwahati in 2001 as a Business Development Executive and subsequently served in various positions and capacities until 2010. Then I switched to Hayat Hospital, Guwahati as a GM. I relocated to International Hospital (Apollo Guwahati) as a GM in the year 2014. Prior to joining Ayursundra, I was there with Health City Hospital, Guwahati. In Health City Hospital I have served many roles i.e. as Project Head, Founder CFO, Business Head & COO with P & L responsibility.

I have 21 years of unrivalled experience in the Healthcare sector. I've also worked in all areas of healthcare in the North east. In July 2020, I was appointed CEO of
Ayursundra Super Specialty Hospital. Since January 2022 I have been appointed Group CEO of Ayursundra. Ayursundra Group operates in several verticals, including hospitals, clinics, pharmacy, training, and diagnostics. I plan to strengthen my current position by developing a good strategy for future growth. I’m also considering combining all verticals under one roof in order to create economies of scale and efficiency for long-term success. I am also in charge of expanding the group's operations in North East India. My primary interests are strategic business planning, hospital operations, project coordination, public relations and branding, and incubating new company concepts.

Working in healthcare can be one of the most satisfying job choices if you are enthusiastic about helping people and making a difference in their lives; you might help save a life or bring a new one into the world

What inspired you to venture into hospitals and the healthcare segment ?
Working in healthcare can be one of the most satisfying job choices if you are enthusiastic about helping people and making a difference in their lives; you might help save a life or bring a new one into the world. You can help patients recover, support families during some of their most trying times, or work behind the scenes to keep a medical institution functioning efficiently. Notwithstanding your specific role in the sector, you will aid people, or possibly the entire community, and positively impact their lives as a result. Working in the healthcare profession allows you to fulfil your desire to serve others while also earning a living- a win-win situation. Indeed, there are few jobs where you can make a difference in the lives of others. That is why I decided to work in healthcare.

Define Ayursundra Hospitals as an organization and where is it positioned in the industry?
Ayursundra occupies a special space in the heart of the people of North East. Their journey started off as a standalone diagnostic unit in Guwahati, and within a few years became recognised as a reliable brand in the healthcare sector in the region. Presently, we have diagnostic units, Clinics across Assam and a leading multi specialty tertiary care of 270 bedded hospitals in Guwahati, with a potential of scaling up to another 200 beds. We are trying to raise the bar for medical care in the Northeast of India.

The team Ayursundra aims to promote patient safety, affordability, quality assurance, and holistic healthcare under the supervision of trained health professionals from
across the country, who are responsive to the needs and expectations of the local community and society for all medical specialties under one roof. The Ayursundra Hospital is our response to the growing need for a robust healthcare enterprise in the Northeast, which has a population of over 40 million people.

The hospital is committed to providing the highest standards of trustworthy and safe medical care to every patient who walks through their doors, guided by over 70 out standing full time doctors. The Ayursundra Super Specialty Hospital has the most acute care beds of any private hospital in the region.

Going forward, what are your goals that you wish to invest in and how do you plan to take them further?
With the goal of improving the healthcare ecology in small towns, we have a scientific expansion strategy of commissioning over 1000 beds across the region in the next three years. The need of the hour is to incorporate customer experience into this overall strategy by keeping them at the forefront of all decisions. Our goal is to build a pan-India platform that puts the patient first. I aim to raise the bar for patient care and set a new standard for an affordable, safe healthcare system in North East India. My ambition is to offer inexpensive world-class health care to North East India, with ease of access and high quality. And, before I die, I want to assist the government or private companies in creating thousands of more beds in India, wherein, I want to make Guwahati the South East Asia health-care capital.
