Sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a transformative approach that drives efficiency, reduces waste, and creates measurable financial, environmental, and social value. Nabeel Ahmad, Director of Sustainability and Energy Optimization at Musanadah Facilities Management, blends technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a results-driven mindset to make sustain ability practical, impactful, and financially rewarding for clients.

Nabeel doesn’t just talk about sustain ability, he leads it. By blending technical expertise with strategic foresight, he has spearheaded initiatives that significantly reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for clients while directly enhancing their bottom lines. His work is guided by the triple bottom line of prioritizing people, planet, and profit to ensure sustainability efforts are holistic and impactful.

Engaging in an immersive interaction with CEO Insights magazine, Nabeel shares his strategies, leadership guidelines, future roadmap, and much more. Let's delve into it.

How have your past experiences shaped your expertise in implementing energy optimization strategies in your current role?
Delivering solutions and results doesn’t happen overnight. It requires consistent discipline, not fleeting motivation. My father always taught me to rely on discipline for results, not on motivation. Motivation comes and goes. What distinguishes a dreamer from an achiever is seldom talent, it’s discipline.

Working with one of the global leaders in decarbonization, Cool Planet, was a defining chapter in my journey. It gave me the privilege of learning from some of the brightest minds in the industry, equipping me with invaluable insights that continue to shape how I approach challenges today.

At Musanadah Facilities Management, I draw on the At Musanadah Facilities Management, I draw on the guidance and wisdom of experienced mentors, whose perspectives have been trans-
formative both professionally and personally. I have been blessed with people who inspire, challenge, and shape me as a professional.

What challenges do you face in your role, and how do you solve them?
Education is one of the main obstacles I must overcome. In regions like the Middle East, sustainability is still evolving from a ‘nice-to-have’ to a business imperative. My role often involves breaking down these concepts into actionable steps, demonstrating that environmental responsibility is both achievable and profitable.

Establishing a new department comes with challenges of building credibility, gaining trust, and differentiating ourselves in the market with already established players. I address this by focusing on transparency, a rigorous ABM approach, carefully analyzing the competitive space and the gaps, consistent follow-through, and delivering measurable results.

True sustainability is about creating solutions where busi- nesses, people, and the environ- ment thrive together

Where do you envision yourself in the long-term, professionally?
I envision myself working on global sustainability strategies, contributing to frameworks that create meaningful, measurable

What leadership approach do you follow, and what methodologies guide you?
My leadership style is focused on encouraging a culture of positivity and constant improvement, as well as autonomy and transparency.

I think it's important to empower my team members by granting them the autonomy to make decisions. My main goal is to create a nurturing atmosphere where people can identify their strengths and fill in any knowledge gaps. This is particularly important for a multi-national team. We have been able to promote cooperation and reduce negativity by establishing a culture of respect and understanding between people.

impact on a larger scale. My ultimate goal is to engrave the idea of sustainable practices into the heart of businesses by driving tangible value. This means no green-washing, just fact-based, results-driven strategies that embrace the triple bottom line approach of balancing people, planet, and profit. My focus is to empower stake holders with solutions that add genuine value, rather than simply chasing revenue targets.
I am also passionate about mentoring the youth of the Indian subcontinent, helping them overcome self-doubt and recognize their potential. Changing this narrative is a personal mission of mine.

I feel a deep, firm stability and confidence in achieving these goals, grounded in the unwavering support of my family, who have been my foundation through every challenge.

In 10 to 15 years, I want to help shift India’s global reputation from a source of inexpensive labor to a center of innovation, top-tier talent, and transformative leadership, while embedding sustainability as a cornerstone of modern business practices.

What advice would you give to aspiring industry leaders based on your experience?
I would advise industry leaders to prioritize effective communication and comprehend business needs, especially in the areas of sustainability and energy optimization. Understanding how companies function and what matters to them is essential.

Understanding factors, including basic human needs such as control, security, status, or recognition, influences people's and organizations' motivations, which will help you adjust your strategy and connect with the priorities of CEOs, CFOs, and directors.

Communication is equally important. Even though your technical knowledge is a 10 on 10, your expertise is only a 3 on 10 if you cannot communicate well. Your overall impact is determined by your capacity to convey concepts in a clear and convincing manner.
