Dimple Mehta, Founder & CEO, 0

The fashion industry is constantly changing. In the 21st century, the style trends of the fashion industry dominate the world more than they ever did, and control not only the way people dress, but also trends in home ware design, makeup fashion and masses’ overall attitudes. While the majority of fashion executives are feeling an overwhelming sense of anxiety and concern about what 2020 has in store, the top players in the market still have a chance to get ahead of the curve and prosper in the year to come. The McKinsey Global Fashion Index predicts that the fashion industry will continue to grow at 3-4 percent in 2020, at a slightly slower rate than the 3.5-4.5 percent estimate for 2019.

Moreover, throughout history, a variety of outside influences and internal preferences have motivated women across the globe concerning their choices in clothing. Women make-up half of the population, spend three times more on clothing than men, and at least in the women’s fashion segment, account for virtually 100 percent of customers. Yet according to a Business of Fashion survey, only 40 percent of womenswear fashion brands are designed by women and only 14 percent of the 50 major fashion brands are run by women. To conquer the world of fashion, Dimple Mehta, founder & CEO of Dnacloset started two fashion brands, Dimple and Amrin for bespoke and couture wear. Much popular in Bollywood, Dimple provides solutions for all the hurdles and has built-up a reputation on her clients making her the most trusted entrepreneur of the field. Further, Dimple, in an exclusive conversation with CEO Insights, discusses a true celebration of femininity and grace, Dimple. Amrin is finding its place amongst fashion’s elite.

Tell us about your academic and professional journey. How do you leverage those learning to lead your company?
I was born in London and lived there for eight years. Then my family moved to Antwerp, Belgium, where I finished my schooling, undergraduate, and got married to Rajiv Mehta and lived there for 26 years of my life. Eventually, we moved with the family to Mumbai in 2008. I have an undergraduate degree in Public Relations and Graphic Designing from the European University of Antwerp. After moving back to Mumbai, I started two fashion brands, Dimple and Amrin for bespoke and couture wear under the name of Dnacloset. The company is in brand for ready to wear since 2015 and Dimple Mehta Creations for Indian Bridal and couture wear since 2011.

Kindly brief us the inception story of Dnacloset. How do you think your company is different in this competitive fashion world?
Gorgeous fashion begins with embracing the heritage of your roots while still finding inspiration within the global culture. Dimple.Amrin is a luxury fashion label that has stayed true to the beauty of India, but has been inspired by cosmopolitans such as London, Paris, Antwerp and
New York City. Our body of work includes fashion shows at Paris, London, New York and Cannes Film Festival red carpet and Fashion week show. Also, in the Bengaluru Fashion Week, we sponsored our gowns for the International pageants. Drawing upon beauty and sophistication, our classic, breath-taking gowns and dresses feature indulgent tailoring and embroidery techniques not seen the world over.

Additionally, I am a certified Make-up artist from Chic Studios New York. I am also a makeover, style and image consultant from Elite Pro since 2009. I have groomed young women and men to achieve their dreams, excel in their field and create a name for themselves. It gives me immense pleasure and satisfaction to see them achieve their dreams and be able to fend for themselves and help their families grow and live a better life.

Apart from fashion world, what other works you are involved in?
I also work as a Music Producer and have produced 16 music videos and a short film. As a music producer, I have successfully produced 16 music videos and short films with a new short film Shadows in March 2019 which was submitted for film festivals around the world and has been selected, nominated and won several awards. Due to my resolve to provide quality service, my brands have been patronized by notable celebrities, clients, sheikhs and high-profile people from Dubai, Antwerp, London, New York, LA, Paris, Delhi, Jodhpur and many other places.

Furthermore, I have helped in contributing to build a clinic for the underprivileged in Mumbai, Sussupada known as the Ashwini Kumar ‘Antwerp Medical Centre’ run by the Bhakti Vedanta group. To support this, we hosted a fashion show for a cause and called for an auctioneer from the US. All the funds collected by fashion show went in building the clinic and also donated to wheelchairs disabled individuals of all ages and gender.

Brief us about your accomplishments which become turning point for your company.
As a fashion influencer and make-over artist, I have sponsored, styled, mentored, groomed, consulted, and counselled two girls from humble middle-class families who have won The Miss Universe India titles in 2018 Nehal Chudasama and 2020 Adline Castellino. Both girls have represented India for the Miss Universe pageant. I also presented my work at Bangalore Fashion Week which was themed after the grandeur of Mughal era and architecture. Bollywood actor Sana Khan turned as a bride for us in a heavy embellished lehenga.
