Tanya Khubchandani
Founder & CEO
For many Indian students, the experience goes beyond education, it becomes a journey of personal transformation, where exposure to diverse perspectives and high-achieving peers fosters confidence, independence, and a broader sense of purpose.
Over the years, Indian alumni from these institutions have emerged as influential leaders, driving change across industries while bringing global insights back to India.
An alumna of the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University, Tanya Khubchandani, Founder & CEO of Elixir Wellness is one such renowned name.
Her time at Penn shaped her ability to think independently, as she was surrounded by individuals constantly pushing boundaries and redefining ambition. This environment encouraged her to carve her own path with confidence.
At Columbia, her perspective evolved further through public health management, where she developed a deeper understanding of systems, access, and long-term impact in healthcare. This shifted her focus from what can be built to what should be built - and for whom.
Today, she applies this mindset to her brand, Elixir, reimagining preventive health and wellness in India.
Are there specific lessons or experiences from your Ivy League journey that continue to influence your leadership style today?
A defining influence came from my time at Columbia, where a management course reshaped how I view leadership and teams. I learned that businesses are only as strong as their people, so I prioritize culture, alignment, and long term growth over short term performance.
This guides how I build Elixir, from hiring to exits, always protecting culture. In a service led business, I believe the team is the brand. Even today, my leadership reflects lessons in ownership, accountability, and enabling people to do their best
work.
How did your educational background support your entrepreneurial vision?
My educational journey gave me both the confidence to build and clarity on what to build. At the University of Pennsylvania, I was exposed to interdisciplinary thinking across economics psychology and communication, helping me understand both business and human behavior, which proved essential for building trust-led experiences like Elixir.
Columbia added a systems-oriented lens through public health, shifting my focus to prevention and long term outcomes. It shaped Elixir’s philosophy of proactive, personalized care. More importantly, my education enabled me to connect disciplines and geographies, bringing a holistic wellness vision to life.
Illustrate how accessible faculty were during your time at university.
One of the most valuable aspects of my time at the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia was the accessibility of faculty. Despite being leaders in their fields, they encouraged open dialogue. I could attend office hours, challenge ideas, and discuss topics beyond academics, including careers and perspectives.
What stood out was not just their expertise, but their willingness to engage as mentors rather than distant authorities. This openness built my confidence to question and explore unconventional paths. I carry this forward in my leadership by fostering a culture where ideas flow freely, regardless of hierarchy.
How have you leveraged the alumni network during your student years and after graduating?
The alumni network has been a resource that grows more valuable over time. As a student, it gave me access to a global community open to conversations, guidance and shared experiences, making important decisions feel less overwhelming.
After graduating, its value became more tangible through meaningful connections, idea exchange, and exposure to high performing individuals. My engagement has been largelyorganic through conversations, introductions, and observing others.
For me, it is less about transactional use and more about being part of a community that

What is one memory that stands out most from your time at university?
One memory that stands out is Spring Fling at Penn, when the campus came alive with music, energy, and shared moments over simple joys like fried oreos. What made it truly memorable was its personal impact. I was quite introverted when I started, and that environment pushed me beyond my comfort zone.
I found myself engaging with new people and becoming more open with each interaction. Those moments, though simple, played a key role in building my confidence. Looking back, it was not just a festival, but a turning point where I stepped into a more confident version of myself.
How would you describe your leadership style, and what principles guide your approach?
My leadership style is people first, yet strongly outcome driven. I focus on building capable teams by hiring well, setting clear expectations, and enabling performance, while maintaining strong accountability and ownership across roles.
I follow clarity over complexity, ensuring goals and processes are simple and executable, especially in a fast growing environment where alignment is critical. I remain hands on in early stages but step back as systems mature to build independent leaders. Above all, I prioritize culture, making tough decisions when needed, as it directly shapes client experience and defines the brand.
What future vision are you working towards?.
The long term vision is to build Elixir into a globally recognized, medically led longevity and preventive health platform. While we have grown into a multi service, multi-city model, the focus now is on scaling with depth by integrating diagnostics, genomics, and wellness into one ecosystem.
We aim to expand across India and explore global markets. More importantly, I want to shift healthcare from reactive to proactive and personalized, helping people take control of their long term health.
