Consistency moral integrity and a longterm vision are the three key pillars that can enable leaders to create lasting impact. This trifecta aptly describes the defining leadership philosophy powering Shalabh Aran’s professional journey. The Managing Partner of Aran Projects, Shalabh’s 34 years of experience in the real estate and infra -structure industry embodies growth driven by a higher purpose.

His career progression from a young entre -preneur taking a big risk to handing large-scale developments through trust tells a story of dedication towards creating value that is quantified by numbers with a deeper and lasting impact on life.

An alumnus of IIT Roorkee, Aran's roots were laid down by his rigorous technical education, sound life skills and the values of integrity as well as confidence instilled in him by the institution.

After initial professional exposure through projects in the NCR region, Shalabh decided to foray into entrepreneurship in 1995. This journey involved overcoming tough initial phases of establishing credibility, securing his first project and growing from humble beginnings to monumental developments.

Besides the expansion in turnover, his leadership has been marked by superior quality of projects and public trust. Shalabh credits lessons learned while at IIT as his success mantra. Today, he is dedicated to environmental stewardship, cooperation, and community involvement. Let's hear from him.

How did your entre- preneurial journey begin? What were the key milestones along the way?

I began my entrepreneurial journey in 1995 after completing my post-graduation in Master of Urban and Rural Planning from IIT Roorkee in 1991. Before starting my own firm, I worked with several companies in the NCR region, contributing to diverse real estate and infrastructure projects.

Entrepreneurship was always my goal, and launching my firm came with its share of challenges. Securing the first project was the toughest milestone, as gaining trust without extensive experience was difficult in an era when credibility was often associated with age and long careers.

Another significant achievement was reaching a turnover of one crore, which felt monumental at the time. Over the years, we steadily crossed 10, 20, and then 25 crores in revenue. Beyond financial growth, delivering high-quality, large-scale and prestigious projects, including those inaugurated by governors
and eminent personalities was deeply rewarding and reaffirmed our sense of accomplishment.

What were the most transformative learning experiences during your time at IIT Roorkee?

IIT Roorkee, which was called the University of Roorkee at that time, was and still is one of the best institutes in India. While it is a technical institute, it focused heavily on overall personality development.

They taught us not only technical skills but also basic life skills, how to conduct ourselves formally how to address problems and how to behave in professional and social settings.

Consistency is key. If something does not work immediately, it does not mean it never will

The institute also encouraged sports and extracurricular activities. We had facilities such as a swimming pool and a strong emphasis on physical fitness. Most importantly, IIT instilled confidence and vision in us. It taught us that nothing is impossible; if you have the will, you can achieve anything.

How did the institute shape your professional values and network?

The institute taught us strong problem-solving skills and the importance of teamwork, which is critical in any organization. It emphasized discipline, integrity, professionalism, and professional ethics.

We were taught to be honest, consistent, and respectful of timelines. Discipline, integrity, and adherence to commitments played a crucial role in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset and professional conduct.

We also have a very strong alumni network with chapters not only at the university level but also across various cities globally, with annual get-togethers and global meets that help us stay connected. This network allows alumni to support one another in multiple ways professionally, personally, and even financially. This strong sense of community has been invaluable.

How did your education instil a sense of responsibility and a habit of contri-buting to society?

Although IITs are primarily known as technical institutions, they also place strong emphasis on social responsibility. We were consistently taught that while designing and building infrastructure it is essential to carefully consider environmental sustain ability as well as the broader social impact of such projects.

Development should not be limited to technical advancement alone, but should actively contribute to the overall social progress of cities and the nation as a whole.

This holistic approach helped instil in us a deep sense of responsibility toward society, ensuring that professional
excellence is always balanced with ethical awareness and social accountability.

What is the future roadmap or next chapter in your professional journey?

Going forward, my focus will be strongly centered on consolidation and mentorship. We make a conscious and continuous effort to mentor young professionals as well as aspiring entrepreneurs, helping them navigate their early career and business journeys.

We firmly believe that guiding, nurturing, and supporting the next generation is both a responsibilityand a long-term investment in sustainable growth.

With 34 years of experience, what advice would you give to aspiring and upcoming industry leaders?

First, be technically sound; your funda -mentals must be strong. Second, be honest and consistent in your work. Dishonesty eventually comes back to you.

Consistency is key. If something does not work immediately, it does not mean it never will. Sometimes, success takes time. Stick with it, work with passion, and be patient. Passion and patience are essential for long term success.
