'Legion of Merit' & Other Honors Narendra Modi Acquired for Firming Up International Ties

Narendra Damodardas Modi became the 14th Prime Minister of India and is in power since 2014. He is the first prime minister who came to power outside the Indian National Congress and won the election twice consequently and the second to finish the term of more than five years after Atal Bihari Vajpayee. His vision is to empower India globally and is working towards it vigorously inducing various schemes to uplift the country’s economy such as Make in India, Skill India Mission, demonetization, Swachh Bharat Mission, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Hridaya Plan, Ujala Yojana, Smart city scheme, AMRUT Plan, Digital India Mission, Namami Gange Yojana and many more. Since the NDA government came to power, it has been introducing a flood of schemes, although some are appreciated and welcomed while others are getting negative feedback.

For all the initiative the Modi government have been implementing, and for the efforts taken by him, he is appreciated recognized and honored with numerous awards. One such award is the prestigious ‘Legion of Merit’ presented by US President Donald Trump to PM Modi on December 21, 2020, for his leadership in elevating the strategic partnership of the two countries. However, this award was accepted by India’s Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu from the National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien at the White House. Likewise, PM Modi has been honored with numerous prestigious awards since the time he came to power let’s take a look at those esteemed moments.

King Hamad Order of the Renaissance
Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa honored PM Modi presenting the Bahrain Order-First Class on August 25, 2019. The awards is also known as ‘King Hamad Order of the Renaissance’ that is meant for strengthening the bilateral relations of India with the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Prime Minister was honor with these awards during his official visit to the Kingdom.

Commenting on receiving these awards, PM Modi tweeted, "I humbly accept The King Hamad Order of the Renaissance. This is a recognition of India’s strong friendship with Bahrain, which goes back hundreds of years and is expanding rapidly in the 21st century."

Order of St Andrew the Apostle
Russia on April 12, 2019, announced that it had honored Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, the highest order of the Russian Federation, for strengthening partnership and friendly relations between the two countries.
PM Modi has been enriched with the order for exceptional services in developing a special and privileged strategic partnership between Russia and India and the friendly relationship between the Russian and Indian people.

UAE honors PM Modi with Zayed Medal
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) bestowed the Order of Zayed, UAE’s highest civilian award to PM Narendra Modi on August 24, 2019, in appreciation of his "pivotal role" in strengthening ties between the two nations. The award was announced on April 4, 2019.

Order of Abdulaziz Al Saudi
The most eminent honor of Saudi Arabia was awarded to non-muslim dignitaries. The award is named after the founder of the modern Saudi state "Abdulaziz Al Saud". It was presented to PM Modi on 3 April 2016.

State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan
State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan is the highest civilian honor of Afghanistan. It is been named after the Afghan national hero, Amanullah Khan (Ghazi), who is the proponent of Afghanistan’s freedom. PM Modi was honored with this award on4 June 2016 and he is the Eighth recipient of this award. Before him, this award has been presenting to former US President George W. Bush, NATO General James Jones, and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award
Grand Collar the highest honor of Palestine awarded to foreign dignitaries. Narendra Modi accepted this award on 10 February 2018 and he is the fourth recipient of this award. Before him, King Salman of Saudi Arabia in 2015, President Xi Jinping of China in 2017, and King Hamad of Bahrain in 2017 were honored with this award.

Order of St. Andrew Award
Order of St. Andrew award is the highest civilian award of Russia. This award was instituted in 1698 and was crushed under the USSR before being re-established as the top Russian order in 1998. PM Modi is the first Indian to accept this award on 12 April 2019.

Global Goalkeeper Award
The Bill and Melinda Gates presented this award to PM Modi for the 'Swachh Bharat campaign' in September 2019. Similarly, Modi has been honored with numerous awards for his remarkable work during his tenure.
