Adobe Appoints Shamik Basu as VP of its Creative Products Group

Adobe has named Shamik Basu as Vice President of its Creative Products Group in India, as the company intensifies its emphasis on expanding AI-driven creative technologies from the region.

Located in Noida, Basu will head the engineering and product management teams at Adobe India, collaborating closely with global leadership on major product lines.

He will answer to Ely Greenfield and become part of the company's India leadership team, tasked with enhancing innovation and execution throughout its creative portfolio.

The position positions Basu at the heart of Adobe's initiatives to grow products like Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and its generative AI platform Firefly, which have become essential to the company's drive into AI-driven creativity and productivity solutions.

In announcing the appointment, Greenfield emphasized India's critical role in Adobe's worldwide operations. "India is a key market for Adobe and essential for enhancing intelligent, creator-focused experiences on a large scale," he stated. He noted that teams in India are already spearheading essential innovation in design, imaging, video, and AI-driven solutions, and that Basu’s expertise would “enhance local leadership, reinforce global coordination, and fuel the next stage of Adobe’s expansion.”

Basu has more than thirty years of experience in developing large-scale software platforms and most recently was at Microsoft, where he directed efforts aimed at performance, reliability, and AI-driven experiences utilized by customers worldwide.

Reflecting on his appointment, Basu mentioned that the move towards AI is transforming the creative technology sector. “It’s a thrilling moment to become a part of Adobe—the leader in driving creativity during the AI era,” he remarked, expressing his enthusiasm for working with teams in India and around the world to create future-oriented creative experiences.

The appointment arrives as Adobe is progressively establishing India as a crucial center for innovation and product development. The firm, which started its journey in India in 1997 as a research and development hub for engineering, has now grown into a versatile base covering product engineering, design, sales, and customer experience.

 

India, with more than 8,000 employees across various campuses, is now Adobe's second-largest workforce worldwide and plays a crucial role in its innovation pipeline, especially in new fields like generative AI and digital content development.
