Chinese ecommerce behemoth Alibaba revealed its most extensive artificial intelligence language model yet, the Qwen3-Max, reinforcing AI as a central business strategy.

The model, which is Alibaba's strongest to date, has over 1 trillion parameters—variables that dictate how an AI system handles data—and demonstrates notable proficiency in code generation and autonomous agent functionalities, stated Zhou Jingren, chief technology officer at Alibaba Cloud, according to reports.

Autonomous agent abilities indicate that the AI system needs fewer human prompts than a chatbot like ChatGPT and can independently decide and act toward a goal established by the human user.

Alibaba referenced third-party benchmarks like Tau2-Bench, stating the model surpassed competing products such as Anthropic's Claude and DeepSeek-V3.1 in specific metrics.

Alibaba has prioritized AI in addition to its conventional e-commerce activities. Earlier this year, the firm revealed intentions to allocate 380 billion yuan ($53.40 billion) towards AI-related infrastructure in the upcoming three years, as competition to enhance advanced AI capabilities grows among Chinese technology companies.

At the conference, Alibaba's CEO Eddie Wu mentioned that the company would rise its spending again, but he did not indicate how much.

"The pace of AI industry growth has greatly surpassed our predictions, and the demand for AI infrastructure within the industry has also significantly exceeded what we anticipated," Wu stated.
