AMD intends to significantly boost chip production in 2027 as the US chip manufacturer accelerates efforts to satisfy the surging demand from artificial intelligence, CEO Lisa Su stated.

AMD, Nvidia's nearest competitor in AI graphics processors, has swiftly grown its AI chip division, with its market capitalization recently exceeding $1 trillion due to an AI-fueled surge.

"Throughout 2026, we've managed to boost our supply, and in 2027, we're planning to greatly enhance our supply," Su informed reporters in Taipei.

Su stated that one goal of her trip to Taiwan was to guarantee AMD's supply chain could increase CPU and GPU production to satisfy rising AI demand. She has encountered Foxconn and is scheduled to meet TSMC as part of talks with regional partners.

Su mentioned that AMD is collaborating closely with memory chip manufacturers to ensure an adequate supply ahead of a trip to South Korea later on Tuesday. South Korea hosts memory leaders Samsung and SK Hynix.

When asked if TSMC had talked about a possible investment in Texas with AMD, Su didn’t provide a direct answer but mentioned that the company would require more advanced wafer capacity to satisfy high demand.

"There will be extremely high demand in the coming years." Su mentioned that there is a significant demand, thus requiring increased advanced wafer capacity, noting that AMD is now strategizing for the next three to five years.

Last week, Reuters indicated that TSMC is considering a possible investment in Texas.

Su mentioned that AI could be "remarkably beneficial for the world" but cautioned that companies need to be aware of risks and collaborate on AI safety.

She stated that collaboration among top technology firms would be crucial as AI and super intelligence progress, calling last week’s AI summit between US President Donald Trump and tech leaders a significant milestone.

Organizations participating in the meeting consented to collaborate with "independent auditors" to evaluate if AI systems are functioning as intended by their creators, based on an agreement shared by Trump on his social media platform.
