Adani Power announced that it has signed an agreement with Bhutan's state utility Druk Green Power Corp Ltd to establish the 770 MW Chamkharchhu-I Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan.

Adani Power and DGPC, the state-owned utility of Bhutan, have signed a Shareholders Agreement (SHA) to establish the project, as stated in a declaration.

The initiative represents the second significant hydropower partnership between the two entities, subsequent to the 570 MW Wangchhu Hydroelectric Project agreement finalized in September 2025.

This is also included in the wider 5,000 MW hydropower development Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the Adani Group and DGPC signed in May 2025.

The ceremony for signing was graced by Bhutan Prime Minister Lyonchhen Dasho Tshering Tobgay along with various dignitaries.

The run-of-river project with peaking capabilities is situated on the Chamkarchhu River in the Zhemgang District of central Bhutan. It will be executed under the Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) model via a 49:51 equity collaboration between Adani Power and DGPC, alongside a 30-year concession starting from the commercial operation date (COD).
