CSM Technologies Rolls Out Mineral Royalty System Across Kenya

CSM Technologies, a prominent GovTech firm offering digital public infrastructure (DPI) solutions in emerging markets, has created and implemented a nationwide Royalty Management System (RMS) for Kenya, equipping the country’s mining authorities with a digital platform for declaring, assessing, paying, and monitoring mineral royalties.
The system, launched via CSM Tech Limited, the company’s fully owned Kenyan subsidiary, is now operational for the State Department for Mining, Government of Kenya.
The implementation will enhance transparency in mineral revenue collection and facilitate more effective management of royalties throughout the East African nation.
The digital transformation arrives as Kenya’s mining and quarrying industry experiences a significant rebound. The 2026 Economic Survey from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics indicates that the sector expanded by 14.9 percent in 2025 following a decline of 7.8 percent in 2024.
The Mining State Department announced mineral exports worth approximately $220 million in 2024-25, resulting in KSh 991.3 million in royalties.

According to the nation's revenue-sharing system, 70 percent of royalty earnings is allocated to the national government, 20 percent to county governments, and 10 percent to host communities, making efficient collection and transparent allocation crucial for converting mineral wealth into advantages for the public and communities.
As per CSM Technologies, based in Bhubaneswar, the digital platform enables holders of mineral rights and authorized dealers to perform the royalty compliance procedure over the internet.

Users have the ability to register and oversee their profiles, file royalty declarations, obtain automated evaluations, create invoices, process digital payments, and monitor their compliance status. The system also offers access to verified transaction records and details about penalties and unpaid obligations.
