Anshul Asawa Takes Charge as CEO, MD of Avenue Supermarts

Anshul Asawa has assumed the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Avenue Supermarts in an official capacity, taking over from Ignatius Navil Noronha, whose tenure concluded on January 31, 2026.
Before this position, Anshul was in charge of various leadership positions at Unilever. Most recently, he served as the General Manager for Home Care in Greater Asia and as the Country Head for Unilever Thailand.

In a note, Anshul says, “Today, I am formally taking charge as CEO and Managing Director of Avenue Supermarts Limited. The past year has been dedicated to onboarding and transitioning into this role in a well-planned and phased manner.”
He further explained that DMart's foundation was rooted in the visionary leadership of RK Damani and the solid groundwork established by managerial teams guided by Navil Noronha.
“I am excited to contribute to the next phase of growth and impact for this great organisation, which, as of yesterday, is 500 stores strong”, he says.
Anshul commenced his professional journey at Unilever in the year 1995, subsequently progressing to assume various high-ranking positions in sales and marketing within the foods and refreshment sector in India. He notably spearheaded marketing initiatives for prominent tea brands.
In the course of his career, he gradually assumed greater international duties, such as overseeing the implementation of initiatives in Western Europe, managing the operations of the eastern branch and rural sectors, and leading marketing operations as the vice president of Unilever South Asia.

During his tenure, he collaborated closely with the Executive Vice President of South Asia to devise and execute portfolio strategies and enhance overall performance. He has previously served in positions such as regional category vice president for South Asia, global vice president for the Radiant brand, and vice president for marketing in Unilever Europe.
In his role as global vice president for digital, e-commerce, and customer development, as well as general manager for Home Care Professional, he spearheaded channel transformation projects and facilitated growth in emerging markets.
Moreover, he spearheaded the global home care e-commerce division at Unilever, devising online-centric product portfolios and demand generation tactics while also supervising the Unilever Professionals sector.

According to reports from the media, Noronha, who became a part of DMart in January 2004 as the head of operations after working at Hindustan Unilever, had a significant influence on the transformation of Avenue Supermarts into one of India's leading supermarket chains.
Under his guidance, DMart experienced significant growth nationwide, establishing itself as a reputable brand known for its efficient operations and focus on providing value to customers.
