Anthropic Chief Dario Amodei Says AI Can Lift Millions in India

Dario Amodei, a co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, believes that artificial intelligence has the capacity to alleviate poverty and stimulate economic growth in India and other regions of the Global South. He also emphasizes the importance of cautiously managing the potential disruptions it may bring.
At the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Amodei spoke about how the establishment of the company's office in Bengaluru underscores Anthropic's dedication to India. He emphasized that India holds a pivotal position in terms of both opportunities and risks.

Anthropic has formed strategic partnerships with leading Indian organizations such as Infosys, emphasizing that its artificial intelligence models will be utilized to enhance various industries including education and agriculture.
Additionally, the company is working with Karya to establish evaluation and metrics tools tailored specifically for the Indian market, further enhancing its testing and assessment capabilities in the region.
Dario Amodei emphasized the importance of India's role as the largest democracy in the world in addressing potential risks associated with artificial intelligence. He suggested that India has the potential to serve as both a partner and a leader in addressing the economic and security challenges posed by AI.

According to reports, Amodei expressed Anthropic's interest in collaborating with India to develop testing and evaluation frameworks aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of the risks associated with AI. He also highlighted the possibility of India contributing to the establishment of global standards for safety in the field of artificial intelligence.
Although recognizing the potential of AI to greatly increase economic productivity, Amodei suggested that it could also lead to disruption and stressed the importance of collaborating with governments to effectively handle any challenges.
He conveyed his eagerness to engage in knowledge-sharing with the Indian government to develop policies that address the economic consequences of AI.
The statements are made as Anthropic expands its footprint in India. The company revealed that it has inaugurated its second office in Asia in Bengaluru, in addition to its Tokyo location. This move came shortly after the appointment of Irina Ghose as the Managing Director for India. The primary objective of the Bengaluru office is to recruit skilled professionals in the fields of enterprise and applied AI.

Ghose stated that India has emerged as the second-largest market worldwide for the utilization of Anthropic's Claude.ai platform. In a recent address at a Bengaluru event, Amodei noted that Anthropic's business performance has experienced a 100 percent growth over the past four months since his last visit to India. He also highlighted his observation of the widespread utilization of Claude AI technology in the country.
The stock of Infosys experienced a four percent increase following the unveiling of a strategic alliance with Anthropic aimed at the creation of enterprise AI solutions spanning various industries such as telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing, and software.
The initial focus of this collaboration will be on the telecommunications industry, with the intention of establishing a specialized Anthropic Center of Excellence and incorporating Anthropic's innovative Claude models, such as Claude Code, into Infosys's flagship Topaz AI solutions.
