Ashwini Vaishnaw Inaugurates ‘WAVES Creators’ Corner’

Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, launched the WAVES Creators’ Corner during the India AI Impact Summit 2026. The Pavilion serves as a practical and interactive innovation hub to showcase the impactful uses of AI in the AVGC-XR industry, encompassing Animation, VFX, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality.

During the opening ceremony, the Minister emphasized the WAVES Creators' Corner as a crucial expansion of the Ministry's prominent programs, including WaveX, Waves Bazaar, and the Create in India Challenges.

Vaishnaw led a thorough tour of the pavilion, engaging with up-and-coming entrepreneurs from the WaveX startup group and high-ranking officials from multinational companies such as Adobe, Netflix, Sony, and Amazon.

In a noteworthy development for the Media & Entertainment industry, 51 promising AVGC-XR and Media Tech startups, backed by WaveX, are presenting AI-powered solutions and immersive technologies at the Pavilion. Ashwini Vaishnaw engaged with these innovators, including recipients of the Bhasha Setu and Kalaa Setu challenges.

The Pavilion featured state-of-the-art AI innovations, ranging from immediate game creation and instant-to-screen live studios to an Agentic AI-driven newsroom developed by AWS and BharatGen facilitating automated editorial processes.

 

Noteworthy advancements comprised of Sarvam’s instantaneous voice replication and the Indus Chat App for cross-lingual conversations, as well as a 270-degree AI movie exhibition arranged by NFDC. Additionally, Sony Research India introduced cutting-edge technology for facial and vocal regeneration, and Whistling Woods International displayed marker-less motion capture using a DSLR or iPhone.

The Minister commended IICT for their efforts in incorporating artificial intelligence into educational programs, enhancing students' preparedness for the changing needs of the industry. The platform will persist in facilitating expert discussions, filmmaker workshops, and technical sessions led by international influencers during the entirety of the Summit.

Earlier, Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that India plans to increase its GPU capacity by an additional 20,000 units, resulting in a total of over 38,000 GPUs in order to enhance the country's AI compute infrastructure. A GPU, or Graphics Processing Unit, is a high-performance computer chip designed to enable faster thinking, image processing, AI program execution, and more efficient handling of complex tasks compared to a standard processor.

Under the IndiaAI Mission, more than 38,000 high-end GPUs have been incorporated and are accessible at approximately Rs 65 per hour, representing a cost that is significantly lower than the global average.

In a briefing with journalists today, Vaishnaw stated that the next stage of India's AI strategy will prioritize design and research and development, shifting focus from basic infrastructure to crafting solutions specifically attuned to India's requirements.

He also suggested that the investment in AI is anticipated to surpass $ 200 billion at the ongoing India AI Impact Summit, with $ 90 billion already pledged.

The government is engaging in talks with numerous major corporations regarding additional investments in AI infrastructure, although he mentioned that specific names cannot be divulged at this point.

He stressed that initiatives to raise awareness about AI are currently being rolled out in schools in rural and urban regions, integrating India's cultural context and regional languages into the development of AI.
