AWS Chief Reprimands Employees for Sluggish Product Launches

The leading executive of Amazon Web Services reprimanded employees regarding what he described as sluggish product launches by the cloud computing service during its main Reinvent customer event in December, according to reports.
The Amazon division usually reveals its most daring new offerings at the yearly conference in Las Vegas. Last year, AWS demonstrated its Nova chatbot, comparing it with OpenAI and other AI competitors.
"More and more, we discover that it's beneficial for us to actually launch innovative new initiatives at Reinvent rather than merely pre-announcing them," Matt Garman stated during an internal all-hands meeting.
"Customers desire to utilize our products as we discuss them, and we observe that when product launches are delayed, some of that excitement diminishes." The products that Garman was referring to were not clear.
"Reuters is severely misinterpreting a second-hand version of what was an uplifting internal dialogue where we motivated the team to strive hard to continue providing significant value to customers at Reinvent, just as we do annually," an Amazon spokesperson stated.

Amazon has been struggling with a reputation for falling behind competitors in creating AI products. During the latest earnings call, a Morgan Stanley analyst questioned Amazon CEO Andy Jassy regarding what he described as a story on Wall Street that "AWS is lagging in genAI amid worries about losing market share to competitors."
Jassy supported the company in a remarkable eight-minute response, stating that AI is still in its initial phases and there will be several successful contenders.

Nevertheless, Garman urged his team on Thursday. "The most crucial task we need to accomplish is to ensure we follow through on the roadmap we have," he stated.
Garman urged staff to make certain that AWS clients participate in Reinvent in person, stating that the December 1-5 event is "not engaging if clients are absent." Garman stated that the aim is to exceed 60,000 attendees, which would approximately align with last year's figure.
During the meeting, Garman showcased a new product for internal evaluation named Quick, a form of AI referred to as "agentic," indicating it will complete tasks with little to no extra prompting.
