Boeing partners with AIESL to Boost Indian Aircraft Maintenance Training
Boeing and AI Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) have entered into a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing aircraft training activities in India. This strategic alliance involves Boeing providing comprehensive support, including training materials, tools, and instructor guidance, to strengthen AIESL's training programs. At the same time, AIESL will utilize its infrastructure and personnel expertise while seeking regulatory approval from India's Civil Aviation Regulation (CAR)147 authority to conduct maintenance training for its clients. This joint initiative is in line with Boeing's 2023 Pilot and Technician Outlook, which predicts a significant demand for around 33,000 pilots and 34,000 maintenance technicians in India by 2042.
Sharad Agarwal, CEO of AIESL, expressed confidence in the collaboration's potential to address industry needs effectively. He highlighted AIESL's dedication to supporting the annual training requirements of approximately 100 engineers, thereby enhancing the talent pool in the aviation sector. Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam emphasized the significance of integrating OEM expertise, exemplified by Boeing, with local capabilities such as those possessed by AIESL. This mutually beneficial relationship is considered crucial for realizing the vision of a sustainable and competitive aviation and Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industry, as outlined by aviation authorities.
Vikram Dev Dutt, Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), noted the promising opportunities the partnership between Boeing and AIESL offers to aspiring engineers. He emphasized the beneficial impact of this collaboration on talent development and the overall growth of the aviation sector. This joint effort marks the latest initiative under the Boeing India Repair Development and Sustainment (BIRDS) hub program. The BIRDS program aims to expand training initiatives to cultivate a skilled workforce, especially within sub-tier suppliers and Medium, Small, and Micro Enterprises (MSMEs), thus strengthening India's MRO capabilities.
Through this partnership, Boeing intends to improve the standardization and quality of aircraft training activities conducted by AIESL. By utilizing Boeing's expertise and resources, AIESL can enhance its training programs to align with industry standards and fulfill the increasing demand for skilled aviation professionals.
