Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand arrived in India, emphasizing ongoing high-level interactions and favorable progress in bilateral relations.

According to reports, Anand is expected to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in India to enhance cooperation on roadmap priorities.

“The visit will provide an opportunity for both sides to build on the recent progress and further advance our bilateral partnership,” it adds.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney had a phone call earlier, agreeing on the importance of leveraging the positive momentum in India-Canada relations while working towards concrete outcomes in key sectors.

“Had a warm and productive conversation with Prime Minister Mark Carney. We agreed to build on the positive momentum in India-Canada ties and work towards concrete outcomes across key areas of our Strategic Partnership, including trade, energy, technology, security and people-to-people ties,” PM Modi wrote on X following the phone call.

“Together, India and Canada are contributing towards a more stable and prosperous world,” he adds.

Capitalizing on this elevated diplomatic enthusiasm, the dialogue occurred soon after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal spoke with Canada’s Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu to explore progressing discussions on the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
