Canadian PM Mark Carney to visit India from February 27 to March 2

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to make his inaugural official visit to India from February 27 to March 2, 2026, at the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit will concentrate on business activities, assessing the strategic partnership, and discussions regarding trade, investment, energy, and innovation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.

On 27 February, Carney is set to reach Mumbai. In the following two days, he will attend distinct business events, engage with CEOs from India and Canada, as well as industry and financial specialists, innovators, educators, and Canadian Pension Funds operating in India.

Carney is set to reach New Delhi on March 1st. On 2nd March, the two Prime Ministers will engage in discussions with their delegations at Hyderabad House.

The two leaders will assess the progress made so far in various sectors of the India – Canada Strategic Partnership, building on their previous discussions in Kananaskis (June 2025) and Johannesburg (November 2025).

They will also assess ongoing collaboration in crucial areas such as trade and investment; energy; essential minerals; agriculture; education, research, and innovation; as well as interpersonal connections.

The two leaders will share perspectives on regional and global issues. Modi and Carney will also participate in the India–Canada CEOs Forum planned for later today.

Carney's visit indicates a notable shift from the tense relations of only a year prior.
