CM Naidu Lays Foundation for ReNew Solar Plant in Visakhapatnam

India's renewable energy aspirations and objectives for self-sufficiency will receive a significant impetus as Andhra Pradesh is set to inaugurate the laying of the foundation stone for a substantial solar manufacturing plant by ReNew in the Anakapalli district, situated near Visakhapatnam, on April 23.
The project is being implemented at a crucial moment when India is ramping up its endeavors to reach its goal of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel energy capacity by 2030. This initiative also aims to decrease reliance on imports and boost domestic manufacturing as outlined in the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy Policy 2024 is spearheading the shift towards a more sustainable future. This forward-thinking initiative is focused on attracting significant investments, fostering backward integration, and positioning the state as a prominent global hub for clean energy.

This policy is being implemented through projects that are establishing new standards in terms of size and influence. The forthcoming establishment, a 6 gigawatt solar ingot and wafer manufacturing facility, requires an investment of approximately Rs.5,400 crore.
It is poised to significantly contribute to bolstering India's solar supply chain through the production of essential upstream components, ultimately diminishing dependence on imported materials and elevating energy security.
This endeavor is a component of ReNew's comprehensive Rs.82,000 crore investment pledge in Andhra Pradesh, showcasing robust investor assurance in the state's governance and policy framework. Upon completion, which is anticipated to occur within a timeframe of 24 months, it is projected that the project will create more than 2,100 jobs both directly and indirectly, thereby serving as a catalyst for industrial growth and heightened employment opportunities in the area.
The Chief Minister, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, will ceremoniously commence the construction of the project at the designated location, in the company of prominent leaders from ReNew, including the Founder, Chairman, and CEO Sumant Sinha, as well as public officials and key players in the industry.
ReNew possesses a current operational portfolio of 717 megawatts (MW) of wind capacity and 60 MW of solar capacity distributed among 10 sites in Andhra Pradesh. The company stated that through this recent declaration, it anticipates creating over 10,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Additionally, it aims to collaborate with the Andhra Pradesh government in working towards the state's objective of achieving 78.5 GW of solar power, 35 GW of wind power, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage capacity. Pursuant to the implementation of the Integrated Clean Energy Policy in October 2024, the state significantly captured a portion of the nation's investments in renewable energy during the past year. Notable commitments in the renewable sector, apart from Brookfield, originate from reputable entities such as Tata Power (amounting to Rs 6,000 crore), NTPC Green (totaling Rs 2.08 trillion), Vedanta's Serentica (reaching Rs 50,000 crore), and SAEL Industries (equating to Rs 6,000 crore), among various others.
