Within a short span of nine months, Tata Steel has successfully launched more than 300 specialized AI agents to improve efficiency and accuracy in its operations globally.
Advanced AI technology's effectiveness depends on the extensive operational data that supports it, and Tata Steel's early adoption of a unified data infrastructure on Google Cloud allowed the company to transition from disparate tools to a unified platform for company-wide execution. This shift is facilitated by two pivotal platforms that connect intricate data with practical implementation:
One of the advancements in Tata Steel is the implementation of Zen AI, which is designed to support a new group of developers. This platform allows employees who are not data scientists, such as software developers and frontline managers, to create, test, and implement their own specialized AI assistants.
"Working with Google Cloud has allowed us to turn AI from a technical experiment into a specialised partner for every employee. This isn't just about new tools; it’s about a continuous engine of execution that enables our people to act on insights instantly", says Jayanta Banerjee, Chief Information Officer, Tata Steel.
"From predicting asset maintenance to reducing customer response times, we are using agentic AI to simplify the most complex parts of our business and drive execution at an entirely new scale".

By utilizing Google Cloud's Agent Development Kit (ADK) and connecting with BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage, Zen AI combines structured operational data with unstructured information like videos and documents in a secure manner. As a result, Tata Steel's workforce has been converted into a globally dispersed hub of innovation, enabling small, agile teams to deploy high-quality AI solutions quickly and accurately, comparable to leading technology innovators.
The second element is the Tata Steel Digital Assistant (TDA), a sophisticated internal portal that brings together previously separated information into a single interface, serving as a central hub for decision-making. TDA has the capability to retrieve data from three different areas - global public data, internal enterprise systems (such as operational APIs, SOPs, and financial records), and exclusive user data (including call recordings, complex spreadsheets, and PDFs), enabling employees to navigate through uncertainties with exceptional accuracy.
