The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has finalized 13 agreements totaling Rs 1,981.90 crore through the Emergency Procurement (EP) process to enhance the Indian Army's readiness for counter-terrorism (CT) missions

Carried out using expedited procedures according to the EP guidelines, the acquisition seeks to improve situational awareness, combat effectiveness, mobility, and troop protection in CT scenarios.

Essential equipment being acquired includes Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS), Low Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR), and Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS) along with their Launchers and Missiles.

Given the recent conflict with Pakistan following India's Operation Sindoor, these items have become critical.

Additionally, the procurement will include Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicles (RPAVs), loitering munitions such as Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) systems, and various types of drones.

Earlier, the Indian Army's request for 450 Nagasrea-1R loitering munitions aligns with these acquisitions.

Bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs) of both heavy and medium types, as well as night sights for rifles, will also be part of the procurement.

A total budget of Rs 2,000 crore has been allocated for these purchases, and the acquisitions were finalized within short timeframes to facilitate swift capability enhancement, as stated by the MoD.

The emphasis is on providing the Indian Army with modern, crucial, and fully indigenous systems to address emerging security threats. The EP approach can assist in filling urgent capability gaps and ensuring the timely induction of essential operational equipment.

The ministry has finalized agreements totaling Rs 1,981 crore out of a total allocated budget of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army.

In a key initiative to bolster the Indian Army's preparedness for counter-terrorism operations, the Ministry of Defence has finalized 13 agreements under an emergency procurement process.

These agreements, which sum to Rs 1,981.90 crore, have been completed within a total sanctioned budget of Rs 2,000 crore for the Indian Army, according to the ministry.

Carried out through expedited procedures under the emergency procurement guidelines, the procurement aims to improve situational awareness, lethality, mobility, and protection for personnel engaged in a counter-terrorism scenario.
