EAM Jaishankar, Canadian FM Anand Discuss Deepening Ties

S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister, engaged in a meeting with the Canadian counterpart Anita Anand during the G7 Foreign Ministers' gathering in France.
The focus of their discussions was on enhancing the relationship between India and Canada in various sectors including critical minerals and trade.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand disclosed the particulars of the meeting in a communication posted on X.
"Met with my Indian counterpart, @DrSJaishankar, to follow up on the partnership our Prime Ministers advanced during our visit to India earlier this year. We discussed trade, the situation in the Middle East, and key areas where we can deepen cooperation, including critical minerals, agriculture, and education", Anand says.
She stated that the leaders additionally delved into the matter concerning West Asia and continued to progress the partnership between India and Canada following the recent visit by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to India.
In the meantime, the German Minister of Foreign Affairs, Johann Wadephul, convened with the External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar, to deliberate on the circumstances in West Asia.

In a post on X the German Foreign Minister says, “Always good meeting you, Dr S Jaishankar. Our frequent exchanges are a sign of the strong partnership between India and Germany. We are both concerned about the situation in the Middle East and its global implications and exchanged on ways for diplomatic initiatives”.
During his address at the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting alongside invited partners to discuss the reform of global governance, EAM Jaishankar emphasized the critical need for reforms within the United Nations Security Council, as well as the importance of improving the efficiency of peacekeeping missions and enhancing humanitarian distribution networks.
He specifically drew attention to the concerns of developing nations in the Global South regarding energy shortages, limited access to fertilizers, and food insecurity.

Additionally, during the second session of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, the EAM shared his perspectives on the Indo-Pacific region and the challenges faced by countries in that area.
In light of the ongoing conflicts in West Asia, the EAM highlighted the necessity for more robust and resilient trade routes and supply chains to mitigate uncertainties and disruptions caused by geopolitical tensions.
