Emergent Joins AI Unicorn Club With $130 Million Fundraise

AI coding startup Emergent has achieved unicorn status in India after securing $130 million in a Series C funding round guided by Creaegis, with involvement from MNI Ventures-Claypond Capital, Sentinel Global, Khosla Ventures, SoftBank, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator.
The funding round values the company at $1.5 billion, highlighting the swift growth of artificial intelligence startups worldwide.
The firm is the sixth Indian startup to reach unicorn status this year and the second AI startup following Sarvam to hit this milestone in recent months.
Established by ex-Dunzo co-founder Mukund Jha, Emergent creates an AI-driven vibe coding platform that allows users to create, test, and launch software applications utilizing natural language commands, minimizing the necessity for conventional programming expertise.

The new funds will be allocated to grow product and engineering teams while enhancing the company’s market presence in Asia, the US, and Europe.
Jha stated the platform's goal is to significantly reduce software development expenses for small enterprises. He claims that an app typically costing $100,000 to $500,000 to develop can be created on Emergent’s platform for under $5,000, all while ensuring enterprise-level functionality and security.
Since its launch, over 12 million applications have been created on the platform. Approximately 20-30 percent of users are entrepreneurs developing or digitalizing their enterprises, with small and medium-sized businesses accounting for nearly 70 percent of the company's income.

Although North America and Europe continue to be its primary markets, Jha mentioned that India is becoming a rapidly expanding opportunity as numerous companies seek to digitize.
“India is still significantly under-digitised. As AI tools become simpler and more affordable, we see a large opportunity for businesses that have never built software before,” he says.
Jha noted that enhancing AI model efficiency and increasing the use of open-source models are driving down costs, which in turn benefits profit margins for AI application firms dependent on foundational models.

Emergent generates approximately one-third of its income from North America, with Europe providing an additional one-third. The rest of the revenue is derived from additional international markets, with India representing about eight percent to nine percent of the company's operations.
The startup is also contemplating launching a European office as customer demand in the area keeps increasing.
The firm intends to utilize the recently acquired capital to expedite product development and artificial intelligence research.
Mukund Jha indicates that Emergent seeks to enhance the success rate of applications developed on its platform while reinforcing its fundamental AI agent workflows. The startup is additionally focused on facilitating more sophisticated AI applications, including those utilizing local and open-source AI models.
