Flipkart's CEO Krishnamurthy Says GST Changes to Boost Shopping

Flipkart's CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy spoke to employees about how the new GST changes are really going to help boost shopping and make things more accessible for everyone. He believes that the updated tax rates will give people more buying power, help out sellers, and open up markets - and this was just before Flipkart's big annual sale event.
Just a few days earlier, Flipkart had announced that it had made things easier by automatically updating GST rates on products using HSN codes. Sellers need not have to worry about staying compliant while customers get better prices and deals.

Krishnamurthy talked about how these new GST rates are going to be great for people buying products in India, especially as they're getting ready for The Big Billion Days 2025.
He also shared some good news about how Flipkart's been doing lately, saying they've had some really solid growth over the last few months. They've actually sold four times more items compared to last year as they're offering better value, and they've expanded what they're selling by about 30 percent.
Krishnamurthy mentioned that their sellers are feeling more confident than ever, with Flipkart getting its best seller satisfaction scores yet, which shows their partnerships are getting stronger and everyone's growing together.

Last week, the GST Council decided to simplify things by going with just two main tax rates - five percent and 18 percent - though they're keeping a 40 percent rate for tobacco products and super expensive luxury stuff.
These new rates kick in on September 22nd. Right now, GST has four different rates: five percent, 12 percent, 18 percent and 28 percent.
Flipkart has revealed a fresh marketing initiative in preparation for its premier Big Billion Days event, showcasing one of India's most well-known educational personalities — Dr R.D. Sharma. This represents the mathematician's initial participation in a commercial advertisement set to debut on September 23.

The marketing video, developed by creative firm Talented and helmed by director Anant Sharma, places Dr Sharma in a unique position, encouraging customers to share amusing or creative mathematical questions. These queries are subsequently transformed into exclusive deals offered throughout the sale period.
The upcoming Big Billion Days, commencing on September 23rd, 2025, sees Flipkart collaborating with Dr. Sharma through an approach that combines nostalgia with innovation. In the advertisement, produced by Talented under Anant Sharma's direction, Dr. Sharma encourages consumers to share their most entertaining mathematical challenges. These submissions are then turned into promotional offers for Flipkart's Big Billion Days event.
