Flipkart to Launch Sustainability-Focused ‘Flipkart for Earth’

Flipkart has started to onboard brands in various categories including beauty and personal care, snacks and drinks, home decor, fashion, and appliances, and aims to concentrate on items deemed healthier, free from toxins, and environmentally friendly.
Reports indicate that it is still uncertain if Flipkart for Earth will be solely available on the company's e-commerce platform or if it will also launch on its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes. A growth of Minutes could make it rival Swiggy Instamart’s Switch, a selective marketplace showcasing brands in over 60 categories.

The shift occurs alongside increasing interest from quick commerce platforms in high-end and niche product markets. FirstClub, emphasizing high-quality groceries and agricultural goods, has also propelled this sector forward.
In August, Flipkart Minutes introduced Pykd, its own brand for gourmet snacks. This shift provides the company increased control over sourcing products, setting prices, and managing margins in a category that is rapidly gaining popularity in quick commerce. Rivals such as Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart, and Amazon Now provide gourmet product offerings as well.
The platforms are focusing on these categories as consumers are more inclined to spend extra on products they believe are advantageous for their health. Unique brand collaborations can assist platforms in distinguishing their services.
Swiggy Instamart’s Switch offering also reflects the focus on premium products. In its second-quarter earnings call, Swiggy reported that items available on Switch accounted for over 20 percent of orders on the platform. The current selection encompasses more than 60 categories.

Nonetheless, a founder of a direct-to-consumer brand featured on Switch that the company is still fairly minor, despite early indications of consumer interest surfacing. The founder stated that the trend might span multiple platforms, as quick commerce lures shoppers who are likely to seek out premium items and spend more.
For quick commerce platforms, selected high-quality products may present a chance to boost basket sizes and average order values (AOVs).
They might also generate extra advertising space by providing brands with greater visibility in designated areas of their applications.
Nevertheless, industry specialists think that ongoing growth will rely on whether consumers maintain buying these items after their first experience.
