Foreign Secretary Misri Heads to Washington to Review Ties

The Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, will commence a three-day trip to Washington DC to assess and strengthen the bilateral trade and defense relationships, as well as engage in conversations regarding the escalating unrest in West Asia.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has stated that Misri's visit scheduled for April 8-10 will offer a chance to assess the entire range of bilateral relations between India and the US and further enhance collaborative efforts in crucial areas.

The meeting occurs as both parties aim to strengthen their relations following a period of instability and tension. Tensions increased significantly after the US imposed sanctions on India and President Donald Trump made controversial remarks about his involvement in easing the military conflicts between India and Pakistan in May.
It has been reported that both parties are expected to discuss progress on the proposed bilateral trade agreement during Misri's visit. The visit is a result of the recent meeting between the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and officials in Washington in February.
It is part of the ongoing pattern of frequent high-level engagements between the two parties, as mentioned by the Ministry of External Affairs.
India and the US reached an agreement to finalize a trade deal in early February, following a period of tense relations and the implementation of 50 percent tariffs by the Trump administration.
The relationship between the two countries has somewhat improved after a turbulent year marked by trade tariffs and a military clash between India and Pakistan in May of last year known as Operation Sindoor.
