Hindustan National Glass & Industries Names Rakesh Mehta as COO

Hindustan National Glass & Industries Limited (HNGIL), the largest container glass producer in India, has declared the immediate appointment of Rakesh Mehta as Chief Operating Officer (COO) – North.

The appointment follows HNGIL’s takeover by Independent Sugar Corporation Limited (INSCO), a member of the Uganda-based Madhvani Group, finalized in September 2025.

The leadership change is in line with HNGIL's strategy after the acquisition to enhance operational excellence and speed up growth in northern India. In his new position, Mehta will manage HNGIL’s northern manufacturing and operational sites, concentrating on boosting supply chain efficiency, enhancing production output, and increasing market presence to cater to clients in pharmaceuticals, liquor, beverages, and food industries.

Rakesh Mehta has more than 20 years of experience covering finance, commercial operations, contracting, and regional management.

Before becoming part of HNGIL, he was the Finance Head – North at Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited from 2013 and also occupied senior positions at Reliance Retail, overseeing extensive distribution, logistics, and operations in Gurugram and major northern regions.

Established in 1946 and based in Kolkata, HNGIL runs 11 furnaces and 44 production lines, utilizing advanced manufacturing techniques from Europe and the USA, catering to a diverse array of domestic and global clients.
