India and Liberia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of pharmacopoeia, marking a major step toward boosting regulatory alignment and improving access to safe and affordable medicines.

The Ministry of Health states that the agreement seeks to foster common quality standards between both nations as a component of wider initiatives to improve global health collaboration.

The agreement was signed by Manoj Bihari Verma, India's Ambassador to Liberia, and Louise M. Kpoto, Liberia's Health Minister.

"Enhancing international health collaboration: India and Liberia have today formalized an MoU on pharmacopoeia to advance mutual quality standards and regulatory synchronization." The contract, executed by His Excellency Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma and Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, will enhance access to affordable and safe medicines. "A strengthening of the India-Liberia alliance," the Ministry of Health mentioned in a post on X.

The Indian Embassy in Monrovia also posted on X, stating that the agreement will enable Liberia to use the Indian Pharmacopoeia as a standard for medicine quality. Characterizing the advancement as an "important progression" in the health partnership between India and Liberia, the embassy noted that this move is anticipated to bolster regulatory cooperation and improve access to safe, effective, and affordable medications in the West African country.

The pact, endorsed by Ambassador Manoj Bihari Verma and Health Minister Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, allows Liberia to utilize the Indian Pharmacopoeia for medicine quality benchmarks, enhances regulatory cooperation, and fosters access to safe, effective, and affordable drugs. "A major advancement in the health collaboration between India and Liberia," the embassy declared.

The Ministry of AYUSH states that pharmacopoeias are official collections of quality criteria for drugs that are imported, produced for sale, stored or displayed for sale, or distributed in India.
