India Joins US and 24 Nations in Global 6G Network

India has partnered with the United States and 24 additional countries in a worldwide effort to steer the advancement and rollout of next-generation 6G telecommunications networks, as stated by the US Department of Commerce.

In a post on X, the Department stated that the agreement was concluded after a bilateral discussion between US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada during the G20 Innovation Ministerial.

"Secretary Lutnick engaged with Indian Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada during the G20 Innovation Ministerial to talk about the future of 6G." Today, we are happy to share that India has partnered with the U.S. and 24 additional nations in the initiative to guarantee that the upcoming generation of networks aligns with our collective security priorities, enhances our competitiveness, and fosters innovation in 6G," stated the U.S. Department of Commerce.

This occurs as Union Minister of State (MoS) Jitin Prasada headed the Indian delegation at the G20 Innovation Ministers' meeting, which took place on September 1 and September 2 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, United States (US), organized by the US Department of Commerce and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

As per the Ministry of Electronics and IT, the MoS was joined by Ajit Kumar, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), along with high-ranking officials from MeitY, the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), in addition to officials from the Indian Embassy in the US.

At the end of the Ministerial, the G20 Ministers issued the Innovation Ministerial Statement acknowledging that "emerging technologies can unlock prosperity, boost productivity, and broaden opportunities for all our populations."

During the G20 Ministerial, Prasada engaged in multiple bilateral talks.

During the bilateral conversation with Howard Lutnick, US Secretary of Commerce, both parties shared perspectives on enhancing collaboration in Semiconductors, AI, and Data Centres. In the meeting, MoS emphasized the potential for increased US investments in ISM2.0, suggested enhancing AI technology collaboration, and presented a framework for AI safeguards.

In a post on X, Prasada emphasized his meeting with Lutnick, noting that their conversation focused on promoting essential sectors that underpin the contemporary technological framework.
