PM Modi to Host 11-Nation Summit at the BRICS Business Forum
India is set to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi on September 12 and 13, where PM Narendra Modi will host an expanded 11-member alliance, focusing on practical cooperation across trade, digital technology, healthcare, and climate action.
As New Delhi assumes the chair, talks will concentrate on guiding global collaboration in trade, digital technology, finance, energy security, and reforming global governance.

The two-day summit will convene leaders of state and government from member countries, along with invited global participants and high-ranking officials, at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan on September 12 and 13. Before the main leaders’ meeting, the BRICS Business Forum is scheduled for September 11 at the same location, in conjunction with a session of the Women’s Business Alliance.
Under its leadership, India has conducted over 350 BRICS-related meetings and high-level interactions in over 25 cities throughout the country. India's leadership for 2026 is based on the main theme "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability," which embodies the overarching vision of "Humanity First."
The summit agenda aims to enhance internal collaboration among member states while achieving concrete results in economic advancement, technological integration, sustainable development, and governance of institutions. Conversations in different sessions will likely focus on strong global supply chains, the integration of cross-border payments, increased utilization of national currencies, the growth of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), digital commerce, and artificial intelligence.

Discussions will additionally include energy security, climate adaptability, financing for development, the growth of the New Development Bank, and necessary reforms of multilateral financial and political organizations. Functioning through three core pillars—political and security issues, economic and financial collaboration, and cultural and interpersonal exchanges—the summit aims to endorse a joint Leaders Declaration contingent upon bilateral agreement.
The expanded core group of 11 members comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates, after Indonesia joins as a full member in 2025.
Moreover, 10 partner countries—Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam—engage in the wider BRICS framework while being separate from full member countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will organize the summit, featuring confirmed participation from Russian President Vladimir Putin and anticipated involvement from Chinese President Xi Jinping. A trip by President Xi would signify his initial visit to India since the 2019 informal discussion with PM Modi in Mamallapuram, framing prospective bilateral interactions as a significant diplomatic focal point.

The 2026 summit holds considerable diplomatic importance as it signifies 20 years of BRICS and serves as the first major gathering of leaders after the bloc's landmark expansion.
New Delhi’s leadership positions India at the forefront of worldwide dialogues on trade, economic independence, tech frameworks, and climate initiatives, offering an opportunity for important bilateral discussions with major global partners, especially Russia and China. India’s four BRICS presidencies in 2012, 2016, 2021, and 2026 reflect the changing priorities of both the coalition and New Delhi’s diplomatic direction.
