India, Russia to Expand AI & Manufacturing Cooperation at BRICS 2026

imgIndia and Russia are planning to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence, advanced computing, quantum technology, semiconductor research and manufacturing as both countries prepare for important meetings around the BRICS Summit 2026. The discussions reveal that India-Russia ties are shifting from the conventional trade dimension.

Indian manufacturing sector has the potential to attract Russian companies. Aviation, Energy, Nuclear Technology, Mining and Heavy Industries Companies may consider engaging with Indian Companies and manufacturers. Possible areas of cooperation include technology transfer, joint projects and local manufacturing. This can facilitate access of new technologies to Indian industries and also stimulate local industry production.

Many of these discussions will take place during Innoprom. Industrial exhibition is going to happen on 9th-11th Sept in India.  The Russian business, the Russian government and Indian business and government will attend this event. The exhibition will highlight various areas such as aviation, mining, energy, nuclear power and digital technology and additive manufacturing. AI is also anticipated to be a potential field of cooperation.

A major meeting is scheduled for September 10, where Anton Alikhanov, Russia's Minister of Industry and Trade, and Piyush Goyal, India's Minister of Commerce and Industry, will be participating in the main plenary session. It is likely to cover the areas of trade, investment, market access and joint industrial projects, the organisers of the event said.

The cooperation is accelerating in the backdrop of India and Russia strengthening their business and technology partnership. Technology transfer and local manufacturing may be used to enhance local capacities and supply chains in key sectors for India. Discussions on regional aviation, digital technology, critical minerals, trade infrastructure and additive manufacturing will also be an opportunity that is expected to be created in India. But the amount of investments and technology transfer deals has not yet been finalized.

India is also using its BRICS chairmanship to promote cooperation in emerging technologies among the expanded 11-member BRICS group.

One of the proposed initiatives is the Global Research Advanced Infrastructure Network (GRAIN). The network could allow researchers from BRICS countries to access high-performance computing and supercomputing facilities.

India is also likely to promote more collaboration in areas like AI, quantum technology and semiconductors. The areas are gaining increasing significance for research, technology development, and more resilient supply chains. The two countries could have key areas of cooperation in the future involving AI, semiconductors, advanced computing, quantum research and manufacturing.
