Sergio Gor Pushes for Stronger US-India Business & Investment Ties

imgSergio Gor, the US Ambassador to India, has intensified the initiatives to deepen the economic cooperation between the United States and India, with a focus on increased opportunities for American businesses, increased investment, innovation and further cooperation on the supply chain between the two countries.

Sergio said that his priority is to foster greater opportunities for U.S. business in India, and increase economic engagement between the two countries. Following a discussion with Amazon executives on the company’s India footprint, the US envoy said, “American innovation is a powerful force around the world.” The discussion was centred around the issue of greater opportunities for the US businesses and further deepening US-India economic relations, he added.

The ambassador's recent engagements also highlight the role of the southern states of India in the overall bilateral relations. As he visited Bengaluru on 6th Sep, Sergio emphasized the contribution of this region to innovation, investment, tech partnerships and key supply chains.

The collaboration between both countries is creating innovations, increasing investments and improving South Indian vital supply chains, said Sergio. Washington's remarks coincided with the 250th anniversary of the United States' independence and were part of his larger agenda to forge closer economic ties with India.

Karnataka has also become a vital region of cooperation, especially in the field of space technology, artificial intelligence, and trade. Sergio met Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and discussed with him to provide more opportunities for industries in both countries.

On the path to cooperation, we are establishing opportunities for both industries in the United States and in India through programs such as Pax Silica and TRUST for cooperation in new technologies and various strategic economic areas, Sergio said.

The envoy also discussed the future of the US-India partnership in promoting economic growth, innovation and new opportunities with Bengaluru South BJP MP Tejasvi Surya. Sergio’s engagements in Karnataka come amid increasing attention on technology-driven collaboration and investment between the two countries.

In an earlier interview to the Press Trust of India, Sergio has said that the Union Commerce and Industry minister Piyush Goyal would be going to the United States later this month for the G20 Trade Ministers' Meeting and discuss related issues of the ongoing trade negotiations.

At the 66th Annual Session of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), Gor said India and the United States were having an active and positive engagement to build a strong trade relationship with considerable progress in talks.

Both governments are trying to develop a fair, reciprocal and mutually beneficial relationship,” he added. As both sides work towards furthering bilateral trade negotiations, Piyush’s visit to the US is likely to offer yet another avenue for discussions.

The recent Indian engagements by Sergio highlight the evolving nature of US-India economic ties, attracting areas like trade, investment, artificial intelligence, space technology, manufacturing, innovation, and supply-chain resilience. The attention he has paid to the development of opportunities in the business sector for both countries also highlights the importance of economic diplomacy for the next trajectory of relations between India and the United States within the strategic partnership framework.
