India, South Korea to Explore Joint Initiatives in Sectors

India and South Korea have reached an agreement to investigate collaborative projects in electronics and electric vehicle component sectors, along with digital supply chains, according to an announcement from the commerce ministry.

These matters were deliberated between India's Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada and Korea's Yeo Han-Koo.

In discussions...the focus areas included collaboration in manufacturing, digital technologies and clean technologies. The two sides agreed to explore joint initiatives in electronics, EV components, and trusted digital supply chains.

Prasada also conducted bilateral discussions with representatives from Japan, South Africa, and the Netherlands, focusing on methods to enhance trade relationships and investment opportunities.

These conversations took place during the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers' Meeting in Gqeberha, South Africa.

India also emphasized the importance of providing developing nations with sufficient policy flexibility and appropriate timeframes for implementation during their development process.

 

During the World Trade Organisation discussions, Prasada advocated for reestablishing a completely operational two-level dispute resolution mechanism that includes a functioning appellate body.

He additionally stressed the need for a lasting resolution regarding public food stockpiling for food security purposes, highlighting the significance of ensuring food remains accessible and affordable.

The G20 serves as a platform for global economic collaboration.

The organization includes 19 nations along with the European Union and African Union. G20 participants represent approximately 85 percent of worldwide GDP, more than 75 percent of international trade, and about two-thirds of the global population.

During India's leadership of the organization in 2023, the African Union joined the G-20 as a member.

This forum was created in 1999 following the Asian financial crisis and was upgraded to include world leaders in 2009 to enhance cooperation regarding economic growth, stability, and worldwide challenges.
