India to Extend Full Support to Students in Canada

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary (East) P Kumaran stated that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney informed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about 400,000 Indian students enrolled in Canada, which is double the figure in the US and quadruple the count in the UK.

Kumaran, during the Special Briefing regarding the Prime Minister of Canada's official visit to India, stated that Indian consulates and High Commissions are in contact with students and will undertake all required measures to offer maximum support to them.

"Our consulates and High Commission are communicating with our students and community organizations, and they will take all required actions to collaborate with Canadian security agencies and law enforcement to offer any possible support to students encountering challenges in Canada," Kumaran stated.

Kumaran stated, "Prime Minister Carney noted that Canada hosts 400,000 Indian students, which is double the figure in the US and quadruple that of the UK."

There's been significant public pressure on Canadian politics claiming that an influx of foreign students is straining the job market, creating stress on infrastructure and the services available to citizens in Canada.

"They appear to have shifted towards imposing limitations on the number of students they plan to accept in the future. I believe it is the responsibility of each country to determine how many students their systems can accommodate, and they must evaluate this based on their own assessed capabilities," adds Kumaran.

"Our goal is to explore opportunities to collaborate with high-caliber Canadian educational institutions," Kumaran stated.

“The Prime Minister encouraged Canadian universities to establish campuses in India. There are partnerships in R&D that are mentioned. Numerous different alternative methods are being explored. At some time, if chances arise for our youth to return in numbers that resemble what we observed previously, it will be beneficial,” he stated.
