India, UK are Global AI Superpowers: Rishi Sunak

Former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated that both India and the United Kingdom (UK) have become global "AI superpowers," emphasizing the increasing technological collaboration between the two nations.
Discussing the worldwide AI scene, during an AI-centric event organized by the High Commission of India in London, Sunak mentioned the well-known Stanford AI Index, highlighting that both nations are among the top AI powers globally.
Recognizing that India has recently surpassed the UK in the rankings, he made a humorous comment regarding the competitive nature in the ICC Test rankings.
He stated, "As per the highly regarded Stanford AI Index, India and the UK are both classified as AI superpowers." While India has recently surpassed the UK in the rankings, I pointed out to Prime Minister Modi at the summit that England still leads in the ICC Test rankings.
He emphasized that both nations possess a comparable approach to artificial intelligence governance, prioritizing innovation-friendly strategies instead of strict regulation. Sunak stated, "India and the UK have a similar perspective on AI: neither supports the EU's centralized regulatory method or the informal response from the US." Rather, we adopt a principles-oriented, practical, and pro-innovation mindset. I am convinced that we can bring nations together through this reasonable strategy, even in a divided world.
