CM Naidu Urges Officials to Reduce Cost of Power Purchase

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed government officials to intensify their efforts in decreasing power purchase expenditures and adopting appropriate reforms to alleviate the financial strain on consumers.
During a meeting with the Energy Department officials in Amaravati, the Chief Minister instructed them to reduce the price of power procurement to Rs 4 per unit.
He emphasized the need for a well-rounded strategy to alleviate the debts of power utilities without raising consumer tariffs.

Through continued reforms, there is a potential to decrease the cost by Rs. 1.32 per unit, with a goal of achieving Rs. 4.10 per unit by the fiscal year 2028-29. The adept handling of power utilities has already led to savings amounting to Rs. 339 crore in the year 2025-26, as communicated to the Chief Minister.
Naidu emphasized the importance of incorporating new technologies and innovations to improve energy efficiency and lower expenses. He highlighted Andhra Pradesh's longstanding legacy as a leader in power sector reforms, including its early embrace of energy auditing.
The energy sector is undergoing a swift transition towards environmentally-friendly and cost-efficient power generation on a global scale.

Andhra Pradesh is strategically positioned to benefit from the adoption of new technologies in this area. Significant investments, such as data centers established by renowned multinational corporations like Google, have been drawn to the state due to its emphasis on renewable energy sources.
He instructed authorities to enhance the implementation of rooftop solar systems and ensure broader access to government initiatives such as the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, while increasing awareness among farmers regarding the utilization of the PM Kusum Scheme for agricultural pump sets.
The incorporation of renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, pumped storage projects, and battery energy storage systems, in order to establish a resilient and environmentally-friendly energy environment would be advantageous.

Naidu further noted that Andhra Pradesh currently stands as one of the foremost states in solar power generation and should strive to attain the premier ranking on a national scale, according to reports.
