India, UK Explore Stronger Ties in Technology, Research and Startups

India and the United Kingdom are looking to deepen cooperation in key future-focused sectors, including innovation, technology, research, startups, and emerging technologies, following a recent bilateral meeting between senior ministers of the two countries.
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held a virtual discussion with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Peter Kyle to explore ways of strengthening the India-UK partnership in areas that are expected to drive economic growth and technological advancement in the coming years.
Sharing details of the interaction on social media, Goyal described the meeting as productive and said both sides discussed opportunities to expand collaboration in innovation, technology, research, startups, and emerging technologies.
The talks reflect the growing strategic importance of technology-led cooperation between the two countries as they seek to boost trade, investment, and innovation-driven growth.

The engagement comes at an important time for India-UK economic relations. While the two nations have already signed the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), certain issues related to British steel safeguard measures have emerged as concerns and could affect the smooth implementation of the pact. Both sides are therefore continuing discussions to address outstanding matters and ensure that the agreement delivers the expected benefits to businesses and industries in both countries.
The latest meeting follows earlier discussions between Goyal and Kyle held in New Delhi on June 2, where the two leaders reviewed areas of mutual interest and explored avenues for deeper economic and technological cooperation.
