IndiGo declared that Vikram Singh Mehta has been named board chairman and will take over for Venkataramani Sumantran, who resigned from the position following the conclusion of his five-year board tenure.

Previously, Vikram Singh Mehta served as the CEO of Shell Chemicals in Egypt and as the Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India.

In addition, he has held positions on the boards of Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Colgate Palmolive (India) Limited. Since May 2022, he has been a part of IndiGo's parent company, InterGlobe Aviation.

Mehta worked as an IAS official for two years prior to entering the corporate world.

In 2010, Asia House honored him the "Businessman of the Year," and in 2016, the Asia Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability named him the "Best Independent Director" in India.

Mehta has two master's degrees: one from Tufts University in energy economics and another from Oxford University in politics and economics.

In May 2022, Venkataramani Sumantran was appointed to the position of Chairman of the IndiGo board, however he has since resigned.

Sumantran "managed the Board during IndiGo’s robust recovery [post COVID-19 pandemic] and phenomenal expansion over the last three years," according to the airline.

IndiGo's stock saw slight rises at the conclusion of the day. At Rs 5,324 per share, the stock closed 0.20 percent higher.
