Jaishankar Outlines India’s Indo-Pacific Vision, More at G7

During a G7 foreign ministers' gathering in Canada, India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar engaged in discussions about collaborative efforts in the Indo-Pacific region and presented India's strategic perspective on establishing a robust and stable maritime environment that is crucial for international trade and economic security.
Jaishankar shared on social media that he participated in the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting's Outreach Session focused on Maritime Security and Prosperity.
He emphasized India's maritime security strategy, which encompasses the MAHASAGAR perspective, collaborative efforts in the Indo-Pacific region, and development strategies centered around port infrastructure.

He stressed the importance of establishing reliable and varied sea transportation connections, highlighting India's initiatives to enhance maritime infrastructure and develop robust trade routes.
The government official also urged improved collaboration to safeguard vital maritime and submarine infrastructure.
Jaishankar highlighted potential risks related to maritime security and economic violations, specifically mentioning issues like maritime piracy, illegal trade, and unauthorized fishing activities, and emphasized the critical need for enhanced cooperative efforts among nations to address these complex challenges.
Emphasizing India's critical position as a key maritime emergency response leader, he noted that New Delhi aims to enhance collaborative efforts in humanitarian aid and disaster management within the Indo-Pacific region by conducting coordinated military exercises and establishing logistical support agreements.
He also emphasized how maritime commerce plays a crucial role in driving economic success both domestically and globally in an increasingly interconnected world, and highlighted the significance of robust port infrastructure and safe shipping routes in achieving our shared strategic objectives.

Jaishankar emphasized the critical importance of maintaining the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), while also reiterating India's dedication to preserving an international maritime framework governed by established regulations.
The international maritime agreement known as the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea provides a comprehensive legal structure governing activities occurring in oceanic and maritime environments.
Foreign Minister Jaishankar is currently visiting Niagara to participate in a diplomatic engagement with the Group of Seven (G7) member countries.

Previously, he had a meeting with Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi foreign minister, during which they conversed about mutual diplomatic relations, geopolitical tension areas, transportation and infrastructure linkages, and energy sector matters.
