Jio Platforms Appoints Anuj Gandhi as Chief Business Officer

Anuj Gandhi has been named Chief Business Officer – Digital Entertainment Services at Jio Platforms Limited, as the Reliance Industries-supported tech division intensifies its emphasis on streaming, connected TV, and operating system-led integration in India's fast-changing digital media landscape.
In his new position, Gandhi will manage the company's primary digital platforms, JioTV and JioTV+, while also directing the operating system strategy for Jio TeleOS in terms of planning, growth, and execution. His role encompasses comprehensive content planning, acquisition, and strategic alliances, highlighting Jio’s aim to create stronger connections among content, distribution, and device ecosystems.

“I’m happy to announce my position as Chief Business Officer – Digital Entertainment Services at Jio Platforms Limited,” Anuj stated in a LinkedIn post. "The objective is distinct: creating a genuinely consumer-focused, content-driven ecosystem for the Indian market."
He stated that in Jio’s main strategic business segments, JioTV and JioTV+, the firm is “transforming how millions engage with media, while establishing the groundwork for the future of interconnected living spaces in India.
Anuj will head a multi-departmental organization covering commercial, product, sales, and delivery areas as Jio ramps up its digital entertainment approach in response to increased competition in streaming and connected TV. The Indian OTT sector has experienced significant investments in content, bundling, and distribution agreements, as telecom companies and device producers increasingly compete for dominance in the living room landscape.
His attention will encompass fostering platform expansion, enhancing content collaborations, and speeding up the deployment and acceptance of Jio TeleOS. The action indicates Jio’s goal to combine hardware, operating systems, and content services more closely — a plan designed to enhance user retention and monetization prospects throughout its digital platforms.
Anuj stated that thrilling times lie ahead as we create the future of the living space, emphasizing that he is motivated to persist in propelling the digital transformation at Jio Platforms.
The appointment occurs as Jio broadens its entertainment presence in distribution, aggregation, and original content collaborations. By positioning JioTV and JioTV+ as key access points for digital media consumption, the company aims to reinforce its identity as not just a connectivity provider but also a comprehensive digital entertainment platform.
Moreover, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), has outlined an elaborate plan to position Jio Platforms as a key player in India's advancement in AI. This strategy involves announcing a substantial investment of Rs 10 lakh crore and the creation of a sovereign compute infrastructure.

Ambani spoke to participants at an AI Summit in New Delhi, outlining Jio's strategic transition from emphasizing data connectivity to providing services powered by AI.
Focusing on Jio's increased prominence in India's AI industry, he underscored the company's objective of leading the country towards the era of intelligence through enhanced connectivity.
Ambani expressed his belief that India is not economically equipped to continually rent intelligence services, highlighting Jio's dedication to substantially reducing the cost of accessing AI. He made parallels to the telecommunications industry's transformation that led to a significant decrease in mobile data charges in the country, emphasizing Jio's goal to reduce the expense of intelligence services in a comparable fashion as it successfully achieved with data costs.
Jio's strategic focus on AI entails the establishment of a self-reliant computational framework in India. Ambani revealed that the company has commenced the building of multi-gigawatt data centers in Jamnagar specifically tailored for AI functions, with 120 megawatts expected to be up and running by the year's end.

He suggested that this particular resource could act as a robust basis for the expanding AI infrastructure of the company.
Jio further plans to develop a robust edge computing platform nationwide that will be intricately integrated with its network. This endeavor is focused on elevating the speed of response, minimizing delays, and enhancing the cost-effectiveness of AI services.
Ambani underscored the importance of placing edge infrastructure strategically to enhance intelligent capabilities closer to the everyday environments where individuals live, learn, and work.
