Markel Names Phil Jones as Chief Information Officer
Markel Insurance, part of Markel Group Inc., has announced the immediate appointment of Phil Jones as Chief Information Officer (CIO) for International operations.
In his new position, Jones will establish and execute the technology vision for Markel International, ensuring the organization’s systems, data, and digital capabilities keep progressing in alignment with its strategic emphasis on operational excellence. Collaborating closely with global leadership, Global Security Services, and IT teams throughout Markel Group, he will concentrate on bolstering resilience, improving service quality, and speeding up innovation in Markel's international operations.
Jones will likewise advocate for stronger cooperation between technology and business groups, backing Markel's goal to derive more value from its data, update its technology infrastructure, and enable teams throughout its five regional operations via dependable, high-functioning systems. His appointment highlights Markel's ongoing commitment to outstanding leadership to foster scalable growth and enhance capabilities in its various international markets.
Jones will be stationed in London and will report to Carys Lawton-Bryce, Chief Operations Officer at Markel International.

Jones comes to Markel with a wealth of experience in CIO and executive technology leadership across specialty insurance, financial services, and government. He most recently held the position of Global Chief Information Officer at Aspen Insurance, where he directed IT strategy, oversaw cloud transformation, implemented cyber defense initiatives, and managed a global technology workforce, achieving substantial gains in performance, security, and cost efficiency. His past positions encompass Executive Director of Service Delivery and Operations at the UK Ministry of Defence, managing essential global IT services, along with high-level technology leadership roles at Prudential UK, Lloyds Banking Group, and ATOS Consulting.
