Micron Signs Auto Semiconductor Supply Deal with GM

Micron Technology, Inc. and General Motors declared a Strategic Customer Agreement (SCA) to ensure a steady, long-term supply of memory and storage solutions essential for GM’s vehicle manufacturing and large-scale delivery. Micron and GM are collaborating to enhance semiconductor and automotive supply chains while fostering the upcoming generation of U.S. manufacturing and innovation.
Automotive platforms and manufacturing necessitate a steady supply of components throughout lengthy lifecycles, rendering the predictability and continuity of memory supply an essential focus for the sector. Consistent access to memory and storage is crucial not only for automotive manufacturers but also for buyers seeking new cars equipped with the latest technology and safety features amid the increasing global demand for semiconductors.
Besides the dedicated supply in this agreement, Micron and GM are still working together on upcoming memory and storage technology needs crucial for the next generation of vehicles. This encompasses extensive technological cooperation to agree on upcoming product specifications, overall system enhancement, and the validation of cutting-edge memory technologies to assist GM’s future vehicle frameworks and plans.
This agreement is facilitated by Micron’s continued investments to enhance and localize supply for automotive clients, encompassing advanced DRAM production in Manassas, Virginia.
Micron's $2 billion investment to upgrade its Manassas facility, which started production earlier this year, ensures longevity and supply output essential for long product lifecycles, enhances supply predictability, and supports product continuity in the industry.
