Microsoft to Invest $30 Billion in the UK

Microsoft revealed a $30 billion investment in the UK over four years, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s arrival in Britain for a significant second state visit.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella stated in a post on X that we are dedicated to generating new opportunities for individuals and companies on both sides of the Atlantic.

"That’s the reason we revealed today a $30 billion investment in the UK over four years, which involves constructing the nation's largest supercomputer.

Microsoft stated that the investment consists of $15 billion for capital expenditures to develop the UK's cloud and AI infrastructure.

Trump will be joined by several US tech CEOs when he meets British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at his country estate.

The beleaguered UK government, which is attempting to revitalize the struggling economy, aims to finalize several agreements during the visit on Wednesday and Thursday.

The tech investments occur even with tensions between the Trump administration and the UK regarding London's digital tax.

Trump has warned of additional tariffs on companies perceived as aiming at US tech firms.

According to the 2025 AI Index report from Stanford University, Britain is one of the leading nations for private AI investments in the last ten years, although it significantly trails behind China and the United States.

 

On Tuesday, Google announced its plan to invest œ5 billion ($6.8 billion) in the UK over the next two years to support the nation’s AI initiative.

Microsoft has a workforce of 6,000 in the UK, where it operates multiple data centres, along with AI research labs and video game studios, Nadella stated.

"He also mentioned, 'We will reveal new investments in data centers in the United States later this week.'"
