Milky Mist Dairy Food Limited has launched a new 10 MW solar power facility in Arasanoor, Tamil Nadu, increasing its renewable energy generation capability to roughly 41 MW across its operational sites.

The newly established plant comes after the launch of a previous 15 MW solar facility at the same location, raising Milky Mist’s overall solar capacity in Arasanoor to 25 MW.

The firm has allocated around Rs 109.60 crore for the 25 MW solar project at Arasanoor. Its total renewable energy assets currently include 5 MW at Chithode, 9 MW at Kavilipalayam, 25 MW at Arasanoor, and 2 MW of wind energy at Kayathar.

Since 2016, Milky Mist has been putting money into renewable energy, starting with its first 2 MW solar facility. The company's solar setups have been implemented on dry and open areas deemed inadequate for efficient agriculture, enabling the land to serve for energy production while advancing the company's renewable energy goals.

With the newest capacity now functioning, renewable energy sources satisfy the company’s entire power needs. The 25 MW Arasanoor plant is projected to produce around 2.0 million units of renewable energy each year and facilitate the energy needs of Milky Mist’s comprehensive manufacturing site at Perundurai and its milk chilling stations in several areas.

The extra renewable energy production is anticipated to lessen the company's dependence on traditional power sources and assist in preventing around 16,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Since launching its initial solar facility, Milky Mist has put nearly Rs 197 crore into renewable energy generation projects with a total capacity of 41 MW. The firm has produced a total of roughly 210 million units of electricity, amounting to about Rs 165 crore in worth.

The solar facilities of the company are engineered for a minimum operational lifespan of around 28 to 30 years. Throughout their lifespan, the operational plants are projected to produce about 1,400 million units of electricity and aid in a presumed decrease of roughly 1.35 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

Milky Mist’s sustainability initiative goes beyond just solar and wind energy. The firm has invested in steam turbine technology and a methane gas purification facility, producing around 15,000 units of electricity each day.

The firm also employs its wastewater treatment processes for internal power generation. Methane produced from the treatment process is refined and transformed into Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). Moreover, biomass is utilized for boiler functions as part of its comprehensive strategy to lessen reliance on traditional energy sources.
