OpenAI, Nvidia to Announce UK Data Center investments

Sam Altman from OpenAI and Jensen Huang from Nvidia are expected to reveal a significant artificial intelligence infrastructure investment agreement in the United Kingdom during the upcoming week while joining US President Donald Trump's official state visit.
Both Altman and Huang plan to back substantial initiatives for establishing new data centers throughout the nation, with potential values reaching billions of dollars. This follows a surge in global agreements this year focused on creating "sovereign" AI infrastructure for American allies.
These technology leaders will make their commitment public during next week's state visit. Under the proposed collaboration, the UK government would provide energy resources for the initiative, OpenAI would offer access to its artificial intelligence tools and technologies, while Nvidia would supply the processors necessary for operating AI systems. The complete specifics of the investment initiative remain unfinalized.
Apart from its established Big Tech clientele, Nvidia's artificial intelligence processors have experienced growing interest this year from national governments.

The company reported in August that "sovereign" agreements are projected to produce over $20 billion in revenue during 2025. Government entities across Europe and Asia have shown openness to Huang's position that establishing national AI infrastructure while maintaining data control, separate from US "hyperscalers" like Microsoft and Amazon, is essential for directing technology implementation and capturing its anticipated economic advantages.

During May, Huang and Altman joined Trump on his Middle Eastern journey, where both Saudi Arabia and the UAE supported multi-billion dollar public-private collaborations designed to establish the Gulf region as an AI computing center.
Meanwhile, the European Union introduced a €20 billion fund this year to generate €200 billion in AI "gigafactory" investments. In June, Huang met with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who committed an additional £1 billion to enhance Britain's AI computational capabilities.
During this meeting, Huang cautioned that the UK's digital infrastructure was insufficient to provide a competitive advantage in developing its domestic AI sector. Both executives have also cultivated relationships with Trump.

In January, Altman appeared with Trump at the White House to reveal Stargate, a $500 billion data center investment initiative. Trump stated that this project would provide the United States with a competitive advantage in artificial intelligence development. OpenAI leadership has emphasized Stargate's importance in strengthening America's AI dominance.
